DESTIN, Fla. -- Southeastern Conference football coaches passed a measure Wednesday calling for the league to propose a national one-day early signing period for high school prospects.

Recruits who haven't taken an official visit to a school but who have committed to that school would be eligible to sign national letters-of-intent on the Monday before Dec. 1.

hmm interesting choice of days. I would have thought it would have been August 1 before the season started. I wonder if they have thought through the effect of Coaching changes with that date. For that reason its a pro-player date.

Would this not be in order that the kids could complete their seasons for the most part and the SEC schools would know their physical status? If someone signed in August and then was injured during the season, perhaps not major but enough to hamper future perfromance, or even just had a bad year, the schools would still be bound to keep them wouldn't they?
