The important part:

"Benefield rushed for 2,069 yards last year while plowing across the goal line 21 times, guiding the Yellow Jackets to a Class 2-A state runner-up finish in the process.

The Elysian Fields running back who also plays defensive back for the 'Jackets had a pair of interceptions in last week's 7 on 7 play.

He is considering attending Baylor, Texas A & M, Houston, SMU and TCU."

I am stunned. Truly, Stal. How do you peruse all these sources and still earn a living? Geez. I mean, I live here, so reading the MNM on a daily basis is something I try to do. It takes no effort.

You must have something on the Net that flags "SMU Football" or some similar. Certainly you don't go looking in all these random places for all of this stuff, do you?

In any case, kudos for the find. I missed it. Crappy weather out here.

The question about this player is if Gary Gibbs would have recruited him?

OC Mustang? I'm headed for Laguna Niguel today. Wife's parents live there on the Ocean. Nice (expensive) place to live!

If you get this before you go, have a great time. My father-in-law still lives a little South of there in San Clemente. They used to live in Nellie Gail, which is backed up to LN, but officially part of Laguna Hills. The whole place begins to blur. Where do your in-laws live? We lived in Beacon Hill...quiet little god-awful expensive bungalow.

I have to tell you, I miss it right now. My father-in-law dropped down to Torrey for the practice round at the Open. Perfect weather.

Have fun out there. Drop by In-and-Out and Kan Pai...maybe catch a movie in Aliso. Nice place to hang one's hat.

Didn't we have a QB named Benefield that led us to a huge comeback against Baylor in the '70's? Is this kid related?

No relation. The QB in the 1970s was Chuck Benefield.

Chuck Benefield's big game. I believe Rickey Wesson had been hurt earlier in the year:

I was actually at that game and no we were way behind and Baylor was stacking the line on Wesson, and Smith knew he had to pass and put Benefield in there. The rest is as they say, history.
