Yeah, that story, thanks for it, is a bit skimpy.

The story doesn't say anything about him.

His scout bio page lists him at 6-4, 200 (no 40 time listed) - but no statistical information.

Then it lists only SMU under the SCHOOLS OF INTEREST section .... and says he has no interest in SMU. After reporting that he has committed.

While the Carroll defense has a nice base of experience returning, the same can’t be said of the offense. The Dragons must replace nine starters on offense including one of the most prolific backfield combinations in the history of the program (QB Riley Dodge and RB Tre Newton). Senior QB Kyle Padron (6’3) takes over the controls of the Dragon machine. Padron backed up Dodge last year and passed for 326 yards on 33-53 accuracy (62.2%) with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Padron added 258 yards rushing (5.5 ypc) and 2 TDs. Padron is similar in stature to former Dragon QB Greg McElroy (2005).

Putting someone in place to deliver passes to those players means replacing a great leader and talented athlete in Riley Dodge, Carroll’s starting quarterback the last two years. Even though his heir-apparent has yet to start a game, Carroll coach Hal Wasson said incoming senior Kyle Padron will benefit from the role he played last year backing up Dodge and getting into several games in the second half.

"Kyle Padron is doing a good job of running the offense, making the throws and reading the defense," Wasson said. "He’s had an outstanding spring. He’s very composed in the pocket. He’s made several athletic plays and shown us his versatility."

Wasson said Padron would have been ready to take the reins as a junior, but the Dragons were still blessed to have the services of Dodge last fall.

"Kyle would have started for a lot of teams a year ago, but he was playing behind a great player," he said. "He knows it’s his time now. He’s kept his focus. I’ve seen him improve in all areas."

Behind Padron, Carroll expects solid depth at the quarterback position through the talents of some JV move-ups. Kyle Williamson, Sean Landers, who is getting practice as a running back as well, and David Piland are all preparing this spring. Piland, however, is currently injured and inactive, but is watching and observing nonetheless.

"We’ve got a lot of quality players and good, quality depth," Wasson said.

Completeing 63 percent of his passes before he even gets a chance to practice with the first team.

Ergo, we should like him, too. If there's a man who knows talented QBs, it's Coach Jones.

Its a streatch and a gamble. He didn't get the guys he really wanted so this is a backup plan. Its a gamble because he realizes that with Southlake's offense Padron could become a star overnite and then every school in the Nation would want him. So he is gambling by offering a scholarship before Padron hits the field. QUERY: Should June Jones with his QB reputation be in a position where he has to take a gamble on such an unproven option? There were about 10 outstanding QBs in the State of Texas-others across the Nation and yet June Jones is gambling on a Second String QB that played instrumental roles in Southlakes only two losses in about the last 75 games.

Hate to agree with the [deleted] Stallion, but I think this is a gamble I didn't think we would have to make anymore....

Brother.

My son picked off Kyle twice (JV game) so I got that going for me (or he has that going for him).

Only saw him that one time and the younger Renfro was a WR who caught anything close to him. JJ should go after that kid also. It was JV and lots of experimenting going so hard to read (we won though!).

Here's some pictures of Padron in recent 7 on 7 Tournament. Good potential frame but definitely needs a redshirt for physical development although I don't really think he'll be expected to play in 2008

I believe I'll go with June Jones on this one.

My guess is the June and Morrison know more about this than 'ol stallion. My belief is we could have had several quarterbacks that are more well known that this kid, and we took this one. I will go with June on this one.

I’m sure we all agree JJ is a good evaluator of talent, especially at the QB position, but Stallion’s comment is legitimate.

He is from the highest profile HS in Texas and has ZERO offers.

What some of you are implying reeks of the PB years. PB can evaluate talent like no other; that is why we signed so many kids with zero offers….and we all know how that turned out.
