Kyle Padron

I saw the reports on this board about SMU getting the quarterback from Southlake Carroll, Kyle Padron. I haven't confirmed the offer, but I've seen tape of him, and he's a very appealing prospect. He has a good frame  I have him at 6'3" but the last report I got was in the spring, so maybe he has grown to 6'4". Either way, he has long limbs and wide shoulders, and looks as if he'll keep growing. Even if he's done in the height department, he surely will fill out quite a bit, and by the time he gets on the field, he might well be approaching (if not exceeding) 220 or 230 pounds... Kyle would have started on most teams that didn't have Riley Dodge on the roster. He has a strong, accurate arm with a high release point and good touch on deeper passes. He has good footwork and gets set quickly after taking his drops and sets up to throw with good balance. His release is quick and efficient, and he has very good throwing mechanics, showing good accuracy and velocity. He probably won't have to run much, but he is more mobile than he looks. The transition from Dodge to Padron underscores the differences in their style: Dodge is smaller and quicker, whereas Padron is the prototypical drop-back passer... His stature and throwing motion remind of a younger, thinner of Dallas QB Brad Johnson. That's not saying he'll be as good, but there are a lot of similarities in their frame, throwing style and intellect.
