William Webb to transferI saw this somewhere else but thought I'd post it here as well. Ex Highland Park QB will transfer from Virginia to SMU. Saw him a few years ago and is an amazing athlete. Should be a great slot player at 5'8. If I remember right he had some injury concerns but runs below a 4.4 40.
Was listed as a tailback at UVA but did not play.

anyone else a little concerned that we will have a Gruden-like situation at SMU in a couple years?...and yes is does hurt recruiting ... i.e. Texas

Nope - Gruden's collecting QBs, not WRs (hell, he needs more WRs), and this guy is reportedly coming to SMU as a WR. I know nothing about him, but do you really see a transfer who never got off the bench - even at a good program like UVA - beating out the umpteen WRs (including the load of guys Coach Jones' staff has recruited)? I don't. Hope he does - hope he's so good you can't keep him off the field - but it would take a performance so good that the UVA coaches likely would have played him, too. How does it hurt recruiting? If he's a walk-on, it doesn't cost a scholarship, and you get another Highland Park guy on the team. That's a bad thing?
ok i was thinkin he would be a 'nother Qb but hell we'll have 4 maybe 5 WR's on the line most plays so bring him on down! "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Well, if you had gone by Germany Park yesterday around noon you could have seen William yourself working out with Winston Gamso. The injury you are perhaps referring to was a high ankle sprain a number of years back. Webb quarterbacked the HP team the first few games into the season when Matt Stafford recovered from knee surgery the year they won State. He was a walkon at UVA.
i hope we dont have this discussion again "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
I remember going to a Highland Park vs Denton-Ryan game in Ford my freshman year expecting to see Stafford play, but saw Webb instead. I was very impressed with his speed and quickness. I don't remember his arm being anything to speak of, but he could really move. He's short, but so were all of the WR's at Hawaii with the exception of David Rivers (6'2)
