I don't know how Rivals and others completely evaluate these players. I would think it's just on athletic ability and offers and whatnot. I propose that these services be more thorough in their ratings and look at everything on the field and off the field. Heck, the college programs have to do it.

In my opinion, the rating doesn't mean a thing if the kid is having run-ins with the law or can't cut it academiically. Look at Skyline's Spencer Reeves -- great athlete who didn't get into Minnesota yet because of grades. He's probably going to have to gray shirt this fall.

Was this guy El Paso player a 4 star. Maybe a 4-star headache for UT....

At least they are keeping him within the UT system.

Yes Rivals should make them take the Boy Scout oath before rating them. I dunno I think he was probably rated high because schools like UT, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, A&M and probably 30 more schools all offered him. Actually had a Northwestern offer too. Blaming Rivals because a kid commits a crime really doesn't make too much sense.

Again, your reaction took my assessment took it out of context. Nothing new there.

That's why factoring in who is offering makes so much sense. When a college offers a player a scholarship, they are in essense saying that they believe that he will earn the scholarship on the field. This would include whatever evaluation the scouts have made on the recruits ability to stay out of the pokey.

While it may be said that all schools in general, and certain programs in particular, don't pay enough attention to the boy-scout factor, it's in there somewhere.

All the big Top 20 schools have these issues. I think its better to judge a school on how they deal with the problems once they occur.
