We need a top notch running back-are we not going to get this need addressed this year?

My understanding is that we won't see any running backs earn scholarships in the June Jones era, unless they're signed at another position and moved.

What highly recruited Running Back would want to come to SMU? If he managed to start he might get 6 attempts per game.

And even if he's the best running back on the team, he might get stuck at 3rd or 4th string.......sorry, couldn't resist

If he's a stellar receiving RB who can pass-protect, he could become a star in this offense - see former UH running back Chuck Weatherspoon.

We need to concentrate on defense with the remainder of our ships. That is not to say an exception might be made for a highly rated offensive player who decides at the last moment that SMU is the place to be. JJ would probably find room for him. But there is no point in having great offensive players if they never get on the field because our defense cannot stop anybody. To succeed, we need bigger and faster defenders and we need them now.

Butler has the stuff. He just needs some playing time to show it!

This offense is much harder to defense when you have a back you have to respect-something we don't have right now.

I think Chris Butler is going to be a pretty good back for us.

Butler looked slow off the ball last nite too-he's ok but we need a burner type and I agree we need defensive players more. But a good running back is a need here-doesn't have to be great.
