Noticed Padron now 5.4 ranking. Also Atchison is now 5.6. ben Hughes is # 22 center at 5.4 while the number 21 is a 3 star so he almost made it!

I doubt we will ever consistently garner interest from 4 and 5 star type guys. Look at TCU. Even though they are among the elite of the non-BCS teams both in recruiting and on the field, their classes do not have many 4 and 5 star guys. Successful non-BCS teams rely heavily on Div.1A transfers, JUCOS, and lower tier high school recruits that get overlooked by the big boys. TCU has done an oustanding job of this and the proof is in the pudding.

That said, this class is shaping up very nicely. I'm a little concerned about our numbers at WR but in the R&S you need alot of those guys. This class is certainly a step forward and we should be excited about its potential. I really think we've got a stud in Padron.

Too bad Padron hurt his hand (may be broken and out for the year). Crazy that his backup came in and threw for 3 TD's a plus ran for another: David Piland (Junior). Keep an eye on him I guess.

Not true this year. I posted this a while back....TCU has four 4-stars this year, which is more than most BCS schools. When I checked before there were only 25 schools with more than TCU. As for 5-stars, I believe there are only 28 (with 12 uncommitted) in the country this year and only 10 schools have a commitment from a 5-Star (USC has 4)...so expecting a 5-star is unrealistic for most BCS schools, much less us.

also, TCU is in on the #2 recruit in the country, 5-star WR Rueben Randle. TCU is the only non-BCS school on his list.

Who is to say this isn't the annual ratcheting up of the SMU recruits that always takes place?

What's in it for Rivals to rachet up our recruits? I wonder instead if the recruiting services don't tend to look at the major conference teams first and then eventually get around to the mid majors, thereby bringing every mid major up later in the recruiting season.

....and he's putting up some big numbers

Freshman of the Week

DeAndre Brown, Southern Miss — Brown, one of the most decorated recruits ever to sign with a Conference USA school, caught 12 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns in a 45–40 loss at Rice. Brown, who also had offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and LSU (among others), has 38 catches for 637 yards and seven touchdowns.

The last sentence is telling. "would two stars magically disappear by his name". We are told it doesn't happen. Yeah, right.
