wtf? C'mon man.

I thought the days of a thread entitled by the recruits name, which draws my attention, only to open it and scroll down to see "committed to [school other than SMU]" were over

Some of the threads you are seeing are about players we didn't even offer.Frazier, Crump, and the kid that was rated #26 in the state had no offers from SMU.

We did lose out on Dotson but that was an uphill battle for us trying to get the #89 player in the nation going up against LSU, Louisville, and the likes. If we lose out on Russell you can feel free to say we went 0-fer on our top targets but don't attribute that statement to people we decided not to pursue.

Landing Papa and then McCoy (late btw) allows me to be patient with Doherty. Like Icon said, Dotson was a long shot, and I'm impressed we stayed in it as long as we did.

Nice Tarp avatar, RGV - that 88 team was the Mavs best ever. Just couldn't get past the mighty Lakers

Do we even now that for sure? I'd be surprised if we knew everybody Doh was working on.

I concur that it's good to be in on some of this level of recruit.

As long as we are keeping a list, Daniel Bejarano was a long shot but very highly ranked 2010 recruit Doherty was after and who has committed to UT:

We don't know anything for sure.

My point is that you have to look at a mutual interest between school and player to determine where a recruiting battle is won and lost. We lost out on Dotson and may very well on Russell. We were never in the recruiting game for Bejarano bc he had no interest in us (thus we didn't offer it appears) and likewise we didn't have enough interest in Frazier, Crump, etc. to offer them.

If you want to count a longshot 5 star like Bejarano that we had an interest and showed no mutual interest in us, then we should also count the remainder of the top 100 players per class bc obviously we would like to have them, even though we may not be on their radar at all.

You support my argument, then, that it's a little early to be deciding whether we went 0-fer on our top legitimate targets if we don't get Russell.

How do you know we didn't pursue the #9 & #26 rated players in the state? Bottom line is they decided to go to better programs in Penn State & South Alabama. Both kids listed us as schools of interest & we have been recruiting them. What's you expert analysis now that Russell has gone to KState? Just because we didn't offer them YET doesn't mean we aren't recruiting them. Get real. How many football recruits are being offered now that haven't been earlier. Doesn't mean we haven't been recruiting them just because they haven't been offered.

Waiting to land Dotson & Russell may have cost us some good players who would have loved to come here. I guess it was worth the wait.

As I have stated earlier, Robo needs to hold onto to the limited rides he has available & hopefully can land a Juco or transfer that is a different maker.

My analysis is that Dotson and Russell appeared to be out top 2 targets. We offered them early and we did not offer these other 2 guys, who committed elsewhere, bc they were not as high of a priority for us. I never said we weren't recruiting them. You are right that those players chose to go to other schools but they did not pick them over SMU. To have picked them instead of us we would have had to have been an option for them at that point- which it appears we weren't if they didn't have an offer from us.

"Waiting to land Dotson & Russell may have cost us some good players who would have loved to come here." When you have a legit chance at national top 100ish players at SMU you wait for them in my opinion. We were down to the wire with both these kids- seems justified to me. You then go on to say...

As I have stated earlier, Robo needs to hold onto to the limited rides he has available & hopefully can land a Juco or transfer that is a different maker. I'm confused. You just said waiting for Dotson/Russell cost us some other good players that would have loved to come here but now say that all along you'd just wished we would get some impact transfer or JUCO guys.

I trust Doh. He has done a great job recruiting considering what he inherrited and I expect to see on court results this year as well. The following year we should be in some form of post season play. That is my expectation.

What I meant to say is now that we didn't land D or R I hope Doh goes for a JUCO player or transfer to help continue to the rebuilding of this very young team. Nobody will really know how serious D or R were about coming here. It was nice that they visited.
Also, while Doh was putting the full court press on D & R other players that had us listed as interested went elsewhere. Obviously they don't list us as a school of interest if we haven't been recruiting them.

With limited rides available I don't think its a problem that we don't have any comittments @ this time. Doh went after his 2 top choices and struck out. That's ok.
