T.J. Taylor, a guard from Denison, Tx (75 miles north of Dallas)and the #4 rated prospect in the state for 2010 has changed his schools of interest to include us (medium). OU is listed as high interest. UT was listed as his #1 choice but that changed last week.

Denison also has another highly rated prospect, Coleman Furst #27 rated player the 2010 class & Sherman which neighbors Denison has the #2 rated prospect in the state for 2010, Cameron Clark. Also, Nick Hinton from Frisco has us listed as a school of interest. He is the #23 rated player in the state for 2010 & in the same district as Denison & Sherman.

Short trip for Doh right up 75 to visit 3 of the top players in the state for 2010. This is exactly the type of recruiting I hope we start to see more of.
Also, Collin County JC & Grayson County JC are in the area & it just makes sense to hit these areas hard. Alot of super talent within 2 to 3 hrs of Moody in each direction.

Somewhere this summer I tripped onto an unrecalled online scouting service that reviewed and nationally ranked 7th and 8th graders believe it or not. I generally recall that 9 of the nationally ranked top 20 kids were from Texas. I also recall that 7 were generally in the greater Dallas geographic area. My point is that Texas is a major player in BB talent. Difficulty with recruiting is to be in a position like Doh where he is new to the turf and the more established and high profile program coaches are already into these kids at the middle school level. Only time and major recruiting efforts will cause some of these kids to start giving SMU some consideration. We have the coach and facilities and now we need some success to start selling these kids to stay closer to home and enjoy the same success they would expect at top programs. I personally believe BB recruiting is the toughest job one can have. A huge number of Div.I programs and everyone after a somewhat limited number of top quality kids with limited numbers of scholarships/slots available per program every year. Tough calls as to whom to pursue, who to offer...etc. Almost like a poker game at times. When to hold em, when to fold em, when to offer em and when continue to play.
