Kendial Lawrence had 39 carries for 365 yards last night as Rockwall Heath defeated Highland Park. He indicated that SMU is still in the mix.

Watching that game last night I was stunned by Highland Park's lack of size on the defensive side of the ball. Heath just lined up and whipped them up front. Was this supposed to be a down year for the Scots?
Back off Warchild seriously.

Lawrence would be a great pick-up no doubt. HP has been small on the d-line for quite awhile with no real play makers. They win with incredible coaching and smart kids year in and year out.

Man, that kid can play. I've personally never seen a more impressive performance by a high school running back.

What a difference a year makes. Last year, with the same record (and even a D1a (sort of) win), we had already lost out on the two Running Backs that we were really after (Cyrus Grey aTm, and Jaquizm Rodgers, Oregon State). Now we seem to be heading into November with a real shot at one of these fellas.
It might not be the improvement we've hoped for, but it does seem like the tiniest bit of improvement.

What's his Rivals rating? Is he a top 100? I was watching the game last night and I just assumed that he was committed somewhere already (to a BCS school). He was impressive.

He's #98 in the Texas Top 100.

which is too low, IMO. I find it very hard to believe there are 96 better players in Texas.

Remember his high school Head Coach last year is on the SMU Staff(Tam Hollinghead) whose son is the QB for Rockwall Heath. Interesting that with a D1A commitment at QB for Rockwall Heath they only had him throw 7 times last nite.

Some are saying this kid is a game-changing running back talent. Especially at the high school level, if a running back is that good, there often is little reason to throw the ball. Word is this kid is getting a lot more attention in the last few weeks, and I gather we'll have a fight on our hands to land him.

I know he's recently picked up a Mizzou offer.

It is nice to see SMU in contention with so many other quality schools. This is the type player we need to land to make an impact. I like our chances with the location, opportunity for immediate playing time, and our assistant was his high school coach last year.

they have a new video on Rivals. Kid hits the hole-uhm-gets to the line- incredibly fast and with authority but also has plenty of moves. Would probably fit best in a spread offense.

I do not see where the coaching relationship helps when the coach's own son is committed to Houston.
