Ryan Clark, a sophomore safety from Navarro College, announced today that he will play football at SMU.

Playing for coach June Jones and his staff and being a part of the major turnaround were chances Clark said he couldn't pass up.

"He was a head coach in the NFL, and I feel like I'm an NFL defensive back," Clark said. "I know I have a chance to come in and play football right off the bat. They've got talent and they're young."

Clark had originally committed to Texas Tech and planned to enroll in January, but, according to PonyStampede.com, that deal went sour due to a change in his graduation date. Clark said Tech's uncertainty in the coaching ranks also caused him to re-open his search.

Clark was a pre-season all-American entering this season and had 26 tackles in seven games.

He visited the campus this weekend and after spending time with receiver Aldrick Robinson and other Mustangs, Clark said he felt right at home.

"With how I play and how some of the guys play, I'll fit right in," Clark added.

Oral commitments are non-binding.

Interesting ... Rivals says Gamble DID NOT commit and he actually talked to the kid and has free quotes from him.

It sure is nice seeing those 4 Stars after Ryan Clark's name. I just hope we can start getting used to recruiting alot more of those quality of players with JJ in the future...

congrats Clark and here's to Gamble coming on board as well. These guys could make an immediate impact along with Black and Middleton. Reminds me of the Ravens secondary back in the day.
