During this timeout, we bring you breaking football news:

Lincoln defensive back Keivon Gamble just told us that he has committed to play football at SMU. He had been leaning toward Tulsa. Gamble was a first-team 12-4A selection this season.

More details to come.

Pony94 had this on the football site, I just moved it over here. Great news!!!

Sorry I was late with this. Just too disappointed in the basketball game. But the WDNWHA committee decided late this evening that we did want Gamble anyway. Still no definite decision on Marve.

I vote the committee takes it to the Board for their approval...this board of course!

Not familiar with this guy. What's his story? Sounds from your excitement that he's going to be a contributor to be excited about!

I hear he is a fundamentally sound CB.

DMN has him ranked #79 in area top 100. Rivals.com rates in the 5.0-5.4 catagory, a Division 1 prospect, "a good mid major player". 2.85 GPA. 5'10, 165 lbs.

He's a nice pickup. ESPN has him as the #91 corner with a grade of 71 although they still show him committed to Tulsa.

Here is the narrative:

Gamble has the foot-quickness and underneath zone range desired in a college cornerback prospect but will need to work on his hips and coverage technique to succeed at the next level. He is an undersized corner who lacks good size and strength but will use his hands and play physical when needed. Adequate hips and turns and is fluid in movement skills. Better breaking on the ball in front of him than opening and turning to run with faster receivers on vertical routes in man schemes. Shows sharp plant and drive skill and burst to the football out of his pedal. Displays above average recovery burst and quickness when mirroring receivers out of their breaks. Does a good job tracking the deep throw and maintaining proper positioning. Adjusts his body well and flashes good ball skills. Is very active in underneath run support showing good range and strong yet reliable openfield tackling skills. Our main concern is his lack of great speed and strength needed to press today's bigger college receivers if matched up in man. Pedal is high without great knee bend which hinders his transition quickness. Can open quickly, get turned and is susceptible to the double move. Bottom line, Gamble could develop into a good underneath "Cover 2" corner with continued physical development and improved run support skills. Could blossom at the next level once he attacks a college weight training program and receives college coaching for positional refinement.

Welcome to SMU Keivon!

Hopefully with the running back from Miami
and Keivon this is the beginning of a nice
local pipeline of talent that before June Jones
never really considered SMU.

Thanks for the combine video! Don't forget about Chris Frazier from Skyline, Chase Joubert from Duncanville, Jordan Favreau from Coppell, Kyle Padron from Southlake, Bryan Collin from Keller, Chris Atchinson from DeSoto, and Marquis Frazier originally from Garland. Now with Keivon Gamble from Lincoln, and Shawn McNeal from James Madison, June is making some very nice progress with the local talent!

Once we get this thing turned around DFW kids will stop heading up to Tulsa. Its absolutely rediculous that they are outrecruiting us with local kids. Its FREAKING Tulsa.
