Big Recruiting Weekend.

The clock is ticking down, and we've got a ton of kids coming in:

Darious Johnson (verbal)
Joseph Bonugli
Bryce Petty
Chris Atchison (verbal)
Jordan Favreau (verbal)
Wayne Frazier (verbal)
Ben Hughes (verbal)
Brandon Henderson (Verbal)
Rufus Porter
K.J. Vaifale (Verbal)
Chris Frazier (verbal)
Mike Loftus (verbal)

Most of these guys have already given verbals, but the three that haven't are HUGE. If we can keep what we've got, and grab two of the three, that would be a total coup de gras. Even just getting one of the three would be a nice way to wrap up the class.

Am I missing anyone?

Do we know when Dewayne Peace will be visiting?

I haven't seen any confirmation that he will visit SMU.

For whatever reason I think we land Porter. Just a gut feeling no inside info.

Believe JR McConico a 2 star CB from CA is also on the visit list.

I like our chances of landing Ja'Gared Davis as well.

If Arkansas doesn't offer QB Petty, I think he will commit to SMU this week end. Again, Great Run & Shoot prospect !

Also, it doesn't hurt our chances that QB Bryce Petty and LB Rufus Porter are both being recruited by Coach Jeff Reinebold. Awesome recruiter...both guys are Rivals 3 Star prospects.

Petty, Porter and Davis would make this the most satisfying class — at least on paper — that we've had in 20 years. Actually, after reading about these guys, it already is, but those guys really would put it over the top.

BleedingRed,

This will be one of our most impressive classes "on paper", but I believe Phil Bennett's first full recruiting class had 10 or 11 three star recruits and flirted with being a Top 40 recruiting class. If we finish up w/ Petty, Porter, Bonugli (sp?), and Davis this would probably put us in the mid 50's or low 60's in national rank according to Rivals. Also, it would probably be good for 3rd or 4th best class in Conference USA. Not a bad class considering we were 1-11 the past two years.

I still find your pull quote from biggin pretty funny.

BTW, I find it strange that Darius Johnson is still coming here this weekend. When reading every thread dedicated to him, I thought he committed to Texas Tech before switching to Miami (Fla.). I guess that means he could be switching back to us? Hmmmm.

There is no way in hell we are finishing in the 50s at least on Rivals. Shoot for high 60s maybe which is unlikely

Regardless of where SMU ends up in the rankings, it is a great group of players for coming off back-to-back 1 win seasons. I also believe this group is probably better than any group JJ recruited at Hawaii. JJ said last year that the class he put together last season in four weeks was as good or better than any class he got at Hawaii. JJ said he was 1 for 200 for players that also had a pac-10 offer. In this class, there are several players with legitimate bcs offers that are coming here instead. We now have a system in place and a unified direction . The foundation is being built before our eyes.

Proof that good coaching does indeed matter very much.
