The only reason a message board would scare a recruit away from SMU, is the lack of traffic on the board.

Ever since I joined this board, I have not been comfortable with those who choose to bash coaches and players.
When we bash a coach, we are telling potential recruits to be skeptical of anything said by the current coaching staff because they may be on the way out. Many of the reasons an 18 year old goes to a school revolve around the relationship between the recruit and a coach. If that relationship cannot be expected to continue or if it is brought into question, then that kid will probably go elsewhere.
When we bash a player, we tell future players what they can expect when they come to our school. Sure, every kid thinks that they will be so good that they will never be the subject of that abuse, but they still notice and it is not positive.
So what does all of the negative stuff bring? Poorer recruiting classes and stress between the school and this board. Beside that, in my opinion, most of the overly critical junk is little more than selfserving classless dribble that tears down with out any constructive result.

Hey, this is a fan site. And while I am usually accused of being more or less a sunshiner, I think many of us are beginning to hit the limit on losing seasons. For older alums and fans, SMU went from a player in college football to last place in a medium conference after leaving a worse conference in which we were in last place. I guess I feel that if a recruit is that thin-skinned that message board chatter offends his sensibilities, then the WDNWHA crew probably is right. The first bad game he has when the fans start to critique his play (not to mention the coach), he'll fold like a manilla folder.

I understand frustration and am not sunshining anyone. I've seen everything fro LeVias, to a national championship being stolen by Penn State to the death penalty to this 20+ year derth.
I'm just saying that seldom does public critisism and bash'in coaches accomplish anything other than give out school a bad name.

SMU deserved about 10 times the criticism it actually got over the last 20 years for being the most inept, incompetent athletic program in the country. Sleeping Cheerleaders who didn't have the balls to speak their mind about the destruction of the athletic program that was taking place right before their eyes. I believe the Model is in place now to WIN. There is nothing on here that recruits aren't going to hear from opposding coaches, friends and alumni. Do you really not believe that any recruit considering SMU over the last 20 years was not bombarded with people questioning SMU's commitment to winning. True naivete.

The comments about the program--both the team and coaches--is no different from any other fan message board out there. If a player thinks he can find any school in this day and age without fans doing this, he's in for a rude awakening.

I feel you have never had children under the age of 17. Until 16 they
belive you after that they kind of think you full of it, then at 21 they belive you again. This kid is only 16 and unsure of himself.

I wondered who would pick up on that first. I should have known. I will send a cease and desist letter to the cheese heads.
