for discussion: how does wildcat formation affect recruitin

rumor is we are going to use the wildcat formation. will that change the type of qbs we recruit? wouldn't we need more dual threat qbs than our last 2 or 3 recruits seem to be? what about other positions?

for you wildcat experts...would this mean a bit less throwing, more running?

It will have no effect on the type of qb's we recruit...wildcat is simply a formation or package that can be used 10-12 times per game (or more/less) and a RB/WR lines up as the qb and takes a direct snap (most of the time designedto run), but I am sure JJ can develop some nice trick plays or passes from the wildcat as well....but no, it has no effect on the type of QB we recruit

I agree-you don't recruit a wildcat QB you recruit a RB or WR who has the athleticism to run the offense. Wouldn't expect a Run and Shoot QB would very likely be a candidate for the wildcat position. The best player on most high school teams is usually a QB and often they are moved in College to Receiver-those types might be a candidate. Jeremy Johnson might fit that bill.

If J will was healthy maybe he could run it? Or Cole Loftin or Terrance Wilkerson.

I don't think any of those guys fit what you are really looking for. You want a sprinter, cat-quick speed back in the wildcat-its all about change of pace and the element of surprise. Its not a "read" position like McIllhenny or James Street in the Wishbone-its an "explosion" position like McFadden and Felix Jones at Arkansas and that Dexter McCluster kid at Mississippi who kept burning Tech in the Cotton Bowl
