D.J. Jones Names New Leader

By Taylor Hamm

Posted Jun 17, 2009

D. J. Jones named Texas A&M his favorite at the moment out of his top 5 schools of interest which include Kansas State, Oklahoma, Kansas, and SMU

" Yea A&M is definitely at the top of my list"

Jones is a tough in between the tackles runner that head coach Mike Sherman would love to land. The A&M coaches have been in contact with Jones in the past few weeks and intend to get him on campus by the end of the summer.

D.J.'s main factor in deciding a school is playing time.

"A lot depends on who is in front of me and who is coming in."

This is good news for Aggie fans and the A&M coaching staff. Landing Jones would be a big pickup, and they are in perfect position to do so with their name at the top of his list of schools.

A&M already has a deep and talented depth chart of RBs, so you gotta wonder where the PT is going to come in....

Mike Goodson Sr 4*
Cyrus Gray So 4*
Bradley Stephens So 4*

That's BS...if that was the case he would choose smu in a heartbeat.

It is nice to see SMU still in consideration with those other schools.

Exactly, Michael is a beast and the best of a very talented RB depth chart. A&M is in OU's class at the position - far more stacked that the other schools he's considering. You wonder if these kids do any research at all on the schools that recruit them or just listen the the smoke that coaches blow up their [deleted]...

They probably do research-how many carries did SMU's RBs get last year?
ANSWER: The most carries by any back last year at SMU was McKinney's 46 carries.

Yes, but even in this offense, I'd like to think you'd run the ball more if you had a D-1 quality back who could do it.

The running game failed last year in large part due to the offensive line missing assignments. The offensive line will be much improved this season so I expect a much better running game. A running back can have decent numbers in this offense with running the ball and catching passes out of the back field.

It can be tough to explain that persuasively enough to a 17 year old kid that looks at the numbers...and the numbers don't paint a pretty picture.
