Balancing a starting spot on the football team, a wrestling season that extended to the semistate and a valedictorian school year, recent North High School graduate Travis Carlile obviously has mastered focus.
But even Carlile couldn't help his mind from wandering in mid-April, when he visited Southern Methodist University and the Mustangs football program.
"I had gone to the coaches before I took a tour of the campus and talked to them, and they said for me to come back later in the day, after they had their meeting and watched my films," Carlile said. "So I had a lot of anticipation going into that, I had to wait half the day; It was difficult ... I was trying not to distract myself from the tour and campus visit."
By the time he was set to meet again with the football staff, he had made his decision: "It didn't take long to realize this was the school I wanted to go to whether I played football or not."
