Don Canyon 3*Listed as a 3*, 5.5, on Rivals. What do those of you on this board who know about HS football and recruiting think of this? Thanks.
Re: Don Canyon 3*Im wondering the same thing
![]() Are they rating him on his ability to play QB or on what he projects to at the next level as an athlete? ![]()
Re: Don Canyon 3*.... what the heck? that's a shocker.

Re: Don Canyon 3*I have a feeling he may be a DE for us. That gives us 6 3 stars with Swope and Parks still waiting to be evaluated.

Re: Don Canyon 3*If he's listed as a QB that's how they evaluated him-otherwise he'd be evaluated as an Athlete. One of the big mysteries about this kid is what kind of speed he has-no body seems to even venture a guess. Neither Rivals or Scout or Texas Football have 40 times on him. No track times. Hard to tell from his videos. He looks like a pretty big kid. You'd want to know his speed before you could make any type of projection to defense. If you look at his video there's really only one play out of 30 where he get's to show his speed(on a 35 yard scramble about 2/3rds the way in) . Definitely great mobility for QB but not sure if he even runs a 4.65 at that weight. Not a Ramon Flannigan type.

Re: Don Canyon 3*take that back, ESPN has a 5.33 Forty time-which you can throw out-because he definitely is faster than that based on the video-but you wonder where they got that time and was he out of shape because they had him at 240 and a poor vertical too. I've heard the rumors they want him at DE but if he's 6-2, 240 now they just might pull a Jerry Ball(who was an ALL State RB in high school for a State Champion) and let him eat his way into the Defensive Line.

Re: Don Canyon 3*Defensive line is the only place where I can think he would fit in. My first reaction to him when he committed in June was that ESPN evaluation and where his 40 time was off the chart poor.
Since he's in the DISD I wonder if he's already playing both sides of the ball -- QB/DL. I haven't read enough to know if he's already doing that.
Re: Don Canyon 3*don't know if I posted this on this board, but Canyon was District Sophomore of the Year at Lincoln in BASKETBALL as a Sophomore.
http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:qP4 ... clnk&gl=us Didn't play as a Junior-I surmise the injury that forced him to miss his final 2 games of his Junior Year in Football might be the reason-could also be a reason his performance listed by ESPN was subpar. You'd think a good BB player could beat that vertical easily unless he was hurt. "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Don Canyon 3*If you look at the highlights on Rivals he scrambles pretty well and looks much closer to the 4.5 - 4.6 range. Solid speed and very mobile at QB. You can ignore the 5.33 40 time on ESPN, it's either a mistake or a strange circumstance. With his size and athleticism you'd surmise he has potential at DE, but i wouldn't be surprised if he gets a look at QB. Does some nice things on film and launches a couple deep throws off his back foot when under pressure. Should be interesting to see where he ends up...

Re: Don Canyon 3*His HS Coach described Canyon as "quick, but not Vince Young" speed wise. Also said Canyon has a " strong arm and has been recruited by Oklahoma, A&M, and Baylor " among others....that said, I don't have any idea what position our Coaches plan on him playing.
