What's interesting is that the SEC is pulling recruits in from everywhere, not just cold weather places. Granted, Mark Ingram is from Michigan, but take a look at the QB's in that league. Matt Stafford, Jevon Snead, and the kid from Alabama (amongst others) are all from Texas. I know that Tennesee has a number of kids from California. The SEC right now has a swagger and is looking everyone in the eye and telling them "come play for us, we're the best."

a rising tide raises all ships-which is why a lot of this fear about TCU or UT or UH is overblown. So its fine with me if Texas schools do great in recruiting. I want the State of Texas to have a reputation that this is where the best football is played. I want recruits from around the country to believe that. I want big games against great teams on my schedule-that's how you raise the profile of the program. CUSA especially desperately needs a breakthrough here-nationally nobody gives a damn whether you win CUSA unless you beat a big dog like a TCU or a Tech. Right now recruits consider the SEC the best football in the country and all schools benefit

Proof that a reputation for great academics is not a highly effective recruiting tool.
