Honest question- Is this the best post-DP recruiting class?

I enrolled in 95 and got my JD in 03, so I've been around for a while...I cannot remember a recruiting class with this many legit prospect and so much excitement around them. In your opinion, is the best year since DP? If not, what was the best recruiting year prior to this?
Thanks.

Most will say yes,
Stallion will dissent
Overall, JJ likes the class and he knows better than all of us, I will stand behind him

Remember how fast we thought Blake Warren was? This class has 9 guys as fast or faster. Almost half of those are as fast as Jesse Henderson.
Among those faster than Blake Warren is Fields, a 6'2 running back.
Remember the 3 star linebacker we were torn up about losing to Okie State (Zach Hall)? He ran a 4.7.
If speed means anything at all, we're in incredible shape.

As a whole yes.

That Manning guy helps quite a bit, too.

here's what June had to say about this class....
"Just completed our best recruiting weekend since I have been a college coach..the class we have coming in is the best in a long long time!!!"
Now, given the numbers his teams have put up over his college coaching career, and especially given the limited resources he was working with on the islands, draw your own conclusions. Obviously he can't really speak to this class vs. those at SMU before he got here, but given his record in hawaii with the talent he was working with, i think it speaks volumes - and should have us all excited about the future. I know I am. But what do I know.

If I was rating this class based on a more traditional rating system rather than this year's more inflated system, I'd give SMU 10-11 Three Star Recruits. Its among the Top 3 Class since the DP from a National Rating perspective. The other two classes were 1997 and 2003. Its at least worth noting that on paper I believe those classes were rated higher nationally. 2003 was rated No. 62 Nationally. I think we are at No. 71 presently. I forgot exactly where the 1997 class was ranked Nationally but I believe at least one analyst rated it 1-2 in the WAC
That Mike Cavan Class was really pretty damn good at the Top with about 5 freshman starters plus some Texas Top 100s who got caught up in the Malin scandal. I don't think it was as deep as this class though. Jack Brewer and I believe Karon Riley were in that class. Both competed for All Big 10 after transferring to Mini-soda. I'm forgetting the names now but there was a great undersized NG Pahulu who started and flunked out. There was kid named I believe Marcus Pratt and a DE named Jones? that dropped out. There was a second WR Tony Newsome who was pretty good. I think we had aboutl 5 on the freshman All Conference team and they definitely helped us get to 6-5. Very good freshman class which helped us immediately-but the class basically evaporated after the Malin incident. Quite frankly I might be mixing and match some from Cavan's first 2 classes because its been so long. Suffice to say-Cavan came on strong in recruiting in his first 2 classes but recruiting basically fell apart after the Malin incident
Same with the 2003 Class but several players became key players in a non-losing 6-6 team. You've got to keep them in school or it doesn't matter how highly they atr rated.
I do like this Class though and I think its our best WR Class, best LB Class, one of our best QB recruits, a top notch NG which are so hard for non-BCS schools to sign, probably the best Freshman RB in Fields(McNeil was our best RB recruit-and Shanderrick Charles was close as as a Texas Top 100) quality at OLM albeit a small OLM class.. Weaknesses might be-could probably use another NG, more true DBs without projecting position changes which is pretty hard for anyone to project, There is a kid still out there who would help. I think we committed some guys early which we probably wouldn't take today. Another negative is we have so many recruits who suffered season ending injuries which at least raises questionmarks. And it should be pointed out we haven't scratched the Texas Top 100 which I hope we will start to do next year with momentum building off a bowl win.
All in al I have no problem in someone calling this the best class since the DP because I think that there are more players with the size and speed to project to the next level. Its even better considering is was largely recruited off a 1-11 record. Most our commitments since we began to win in October have been a notch above

Cavan's offense fell apart the second Darryl Dickey left...funny that North Texas just couldn't stand winning the Sun Belt every year with Dickey

Stallion's post made me think about Marcus Mosely who was probably our highest rated recruit post DP...from TX A&M-Commerce's website:
2004: Played in last seven games for the Lions with three starts ... racked up 28 total tackles, 13 solo ... tallied 10 tackles with 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for losses against Angelo State ... totaled 5.0 tackles for losses for 29 yards in losses, third on the team ... tied for team lead in sacks with 3.5 and the most yardage lost at 23.
1999-2003: Did not play football.
1998: Redshirted at Southern Methodist University.
High School: An All-State performer at South Oak Cliff High ... named as a Blue Chip High School All-American ... The Dallas Morning News 1997 Defensive Player of the Year ... tallied 41 sacks and nine interceptions at SOC for coach J.B. Wallace ... recorded 24 tackles against Hillcrest High .
Misc: Health major ... born 3-12-79 ... son of Billy Ray Mosley and Rosetta Wysingle of Dallas.
