Let me began by saying I am very pleased with our recruiting class.
But to add a little perspective to this years' class in regards to our number of Rivals 3-stars.
I have a good friend who is a Colorado State alum.
Rivals has Colorado State ranked #61 overall to SMU's 71.
Colorado State has (1) 4-star and (10) 3-stars with an average star rating of 2.55.
SMU has (0) 4-stars and (15) 3-stars with an average star rating of 2.50.
Take a closer look at Colorado State's top recruits.
The 4-star has 2 other BCS offers, Arizona State and Northwestern. The (10) 3-stars have 2 other BCS offers IN TOTAL. One has a Purdue offer, another has a Louisville offer.
Half of Colorado State's 3-star commitments have no other offers.
Further proof that Rivals is probably inflating their numbers.
Oh, this friend thinks there is no way his school moves to either the Pac-10 or Big XII, they are simply too small-time.

I checked out the other Conf USA schools and it looks like we are trailing only Houston and S. Miss at preset.

for comparison, our 15 three star recruits have a total of 15 bcs offers. (although, fields is responsible for 6 of them)

Looking beyond our 3 stars, I found 12 BCS offers exclusive of Fields' offers and didn't check every one of them (Parks has several but he's a 2 star)

I trust JJ's evaluation better than Rivals.

in Rivals' crazy scoring system, Marshall has actually moved ahead of SMU in Total Points. You wonder why their scoring system can't be more transparent and logical

The bar has now been set.
We are officially the UT of the non-BCS world.
Going forward, we should be every bit as pleased with being "#3 in average stars in C-USA" or "trailing only Houston and S. Miss" as Texas would be pleased being "#3 in average stars in the Big XII" or "trailing only A&M and OU".
In other words, in short order, this will become unacceptable.

If you truly believe in Top 25, given our location, given our financial backing, given our facilities, given our school reputation...how many stay or leave So Miss should not be a consideration.
We are talking Hattiesburg, Mississippi versus Dallas, Texas.
fyi - i found this on the internet - "University Of Southern Mississippi was established in 1910 and is based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It has endowment assets worth $80.8 million"...can it really be that low???

For a team coming off a 1-11 season going into the recruting year, this is more than acceptable. For a team coming off 8-5 and hopefully going into another winning year, not so much. So next year we expect more. I agree.

Well both Rivals and JJ are saying that this class is the best class in a long time. So your point is moot.

You can't totally judge a player by his rating on rivals (or scout for that matter). Its a good basis on their skills, but you can't always totally rely on them. They miss sometimes by overshooting (doesn't look like Mitch Mustain was worthy of a 5 star rating) or they undershoot (Chris Johnson, now RB with Tennessee, was only 2 stars).
