Jesse Williams (2011 JC DT)

Postby Garret » Sat Feb 06, 2010 3:12 am

Jesse Williams was a recruit from Australia that committed to Hawaii when JJ was the head coach. Unfortunately, he was not able to get admitted to Hawaii and after trying for a year or so he went to a JC instead. He's now a 4-star DT for the 2011 class...I'm hoping that he'll go to Hawaii but Hawaii is trying to move away from JC recruits so I was wondering if there was any talk at SMU about Jesse.

In between training, Jesse also has to maintain a 2.3 grade average as a requirement of his scholarship, which means there’s no slacking off in class between games.

Jesse says maintaining one of the highest grade-point averages in the team is among his proudest achievements so far.

What's the conversion of that GPA from the metric system?

I bet the coaches are all over this if they feel he can get into school.

6'4.5" and 340? Damn. If he can move at all, sign him.

Not even close to the same size as Cody.

Cody is 6'5 350 (he weighed in at 370 at the Senior Bowl, but he was "out of shape" by his standards. He plays at 350)

Jesse Williams is 6'4.5 and 340lbs.

Not much of a disparity if you ask me. I haven't seen them stand side by side obviously and only have numbers to go by, but 6'4.5 and 340 would make him one of the biggest DT's in the country.

Might be even better if he cannot move. Just occupy the entire middle.

I thought Cody played at 360, also when he left JUCO his offer to bama was contingent on getting below 400, he signed at 395.

Some background on Jesse Williams.

Here's the timeline of what happened to Jesse on why he didn't qualify to UH. It's pretty disturbing!

In 2007 (JJ's last year), Jesse accepted an offer by UH to grayshirt. UH could have found out if he qualified during that time to make sure he was on course. UH didn't do that.

In 2008, UH again told Jesse to sit out one more year because of the coaching change when JJ left. Jesse wasn't happy about it but, he wanted to be a Warrior so much, he accepted it again. UH again could have check to see if he qualified during that time to make sure he was on course. UH didn't do that again.

In 2009, when finally, Jesse thought that he was going to be a Warrior, UH admissions told him that some of his courses Jesse took in high school have been considered lower level by UH, rather than higher level as they are seen in Australia. Jesse ended up playing for Arizona Western College this past season, who is now rated by JCFootball.com as a 4-star prospect for 2011. http://jcfootball.scout.com/a....amp;nid=4773579

UH dropped the ball on this one. If UH had uncovered this ahead of time, and told Jesse of the problem, then there were plenty of time for Jesse to rectify the problem during his grayshirt years by taking necessary courses for him to be qualified.

I been told last year when Jesse decided to attend Arizona Western College, that there were still be a possibility that Jesse will still want to be a Warrior. The problem is that the big boys (BCS teams) might also be calling him for his services.

If UH really want to get on his good side again and still want him, then they better offer him now. If they wait too long, then it might be too late.

By the way, the President, Chancellor, and other people in the Administration at Hawaii are open about how they are inflexible about certain standards and recruits might get into Stanford or MIT but get rejected by Hawaii. The strict course review including the Algebra 2 requirement, being one of the few D-IA Universities to require the essay part of the ACT/SAT (this made them reject a 2009 recruit the week before Fall Camp started--Tulsa immediately gave him a scholarship), etc.

I read it as
Required GPA to keep scholarship: 2.3
Jesse's GPA: Well above 2.3 ("one of the highest...in the team")

Although written poorly, that is how I interpreted it as well. I just couldn't pass up the chance for a metric system joke.

Yes, there was something very "Daily Campus-esque" about the way it was written

Jesse Williams used to post on SportsHawaii years ago and someone close to him recently posted that he has a 3.2 GPA at his JC.
