JUCO All-America to visit SMU?

Rumor has it Kenny Turner (5-10, 195), a first-team JUCO All-America RB from Fullerton Junior College in California, is going to visit SMU soon, maybe even this week. Not positive, but I've heard this from several people who I trust. Here's what they told me: Ran 236 times this year for 1,518 yards and 19 touchdowns. Had 29 catches, 336 receiving yards. Allegedly runs in the 4.3 or 4.4 range ... with a brace on his knee after injuring his knee. Has been in jail for his role in a gun fight in high school. Played high school ball with Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson, who apparently thinks Turner is an absolute stud. June Jones has a history of reclamation projects, and from what I've been able to find out.
Again, I don't know this to be true, but enough people have mentioned this that I'm wondering if there's some truth to it.

Here's a highlight clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1imJ9XyPtk

I think you guys can access this message board-if not subscribe. Hawaii was involved so maybe there has been some long term mutual interest

Playing devil's advocate a little bit, the guy made one huge mistake at age 16. Hasn't been in any recent trouble, hasn't gotten recent DWI/assault/theft or some of the other things I feel like some of these college athletes get into. it appears that he has learned from his mistake and is on his way to become a better man. that being said, i can't really imagine SMU or other schools out there to be thrilled about taking a convicted felon...Like stallion said above, if we can get this guy - we can get anyone...

No offer from Hawaii — apparently they want him as a walk-on, with hopes of earning a scholarship.

He looks pretty impressive in that video. Thanks for the link.

What I don't get after watching his video is why this kid doesn't just tryout with the NFL as a free agent-he's got NFL ability-its ridiculous to give him 3 stars-he'd be close to a 5 star based on his performance in only a year as a Freshman in JUCO after a 5-6 year layoff. BTW he has 3 years of eligibility if he plays college football although I doubt he'd stay 3 years. His video is simply awesome-I think he would smoke Shawnbrey's numbers.

that highlight reel is out of control. how likely is a school to take a chance on a guy with this kind of background though?

Shhh! If there is even the slightest chance he gets in here, don't give him any ideas.

The video is amazing. He's fast, slippery and powerful for his size. Needs a little more stamina to finish the longer runs, but I'm nit picking.

So he can play ball...It seems he may be attracted to trouble in the news story. Break up girls fighting. Having a gun handy when he heard shots.

weird watching those videos since I played on some of those fields back in my youth. But looks like great talent, I don't like my background and don't see June wasting his time with a guy with that kind of history.

He needs a break. I think he's not going NFL right now because a) he wants his degree, and b) he missed his adolescence, and an education might offset this thing that happened as a kid.

God...I keep repeating this to myself...a kid. Are you kidding? I don't know the details, but on the face of it, I've seen SMU students and alumni do more stupid...AND more illegal kinds of things.

Are they kidding? There were NBA players dealing drugs themselves...packing heat themselves. They are adults.

This kid shows promise. Give him a shot. Yeah, it's self-serving...I like Fields, but this kid is a man. The run & shoot may hurt some folks in the next couple or three years. And I admit, had I not seen his gifts...and had I not read of his academic seriousness, I'd have simply ignored any mention of him given his history.

But it's precisely that willingness that I had to not give the guy a chance that I think SMU should. He was a kid. How long does someone have to pay for a crime where he didn't hurt anyone? He could have just as easily gone to Juvey with another judge in another state, and all this would be ancient history.
