A perfect fit?

A little trouble with the law. Stay close to home? Sounds like a perfect fit to me. Another classic "give the kid a 2nd chance" for JJ.

How bout we just tell JJ to recruit high character kids to SMU that can ball? As if him wanting the ex-con RB, who went to NMSU, didn't get admissions all antsy. Probably contributed to them beating down Hall etc. He's pushing the envelope too early and too often and he's seen the backlash upclose now

DJ is a great kid that made a stupid mistake. He would be a great addition to the program.
He really is a good kid & a good student.

Cool, let someone else, that isn't a far better school than A&M, take a chance. I'm all for 2nd chances if I'm state U, just not at SMU. This is supposed to be a fairly elite private, or so I'm told. FWIW, there is precendent to get him in, witness london giles.

I'm for winning. To hell with snobbery, bring on the robbery!

Wasn't this a similar situation to what Colt Brennan did before he made his way to Hawaii and straightened himself up. He had previously expressed interest in SMU I believe and so why wouldn't this be a good fit under Coach Jone's rehabilitation' philosophy ?

not quite. this kid has only just been charged, with his case yet to be adjudicated.
Colt Brennan was sentenced, went to community college (don't know in which order) and had some period of time in which to show he was serious or not, before JJ and he crossed paths.
not saying that this kid is not a viable candidate, but that the circumstances appear somewhat different.

There may be more to this story-no one seems to have a confirmed reason. I've been following it for months. Even Aggie recruiting services were convinced that Jones had little chance to qualify-and yet miraculously there he was the day before freshmen were to report allegedly qualified. Apparently A&M in coming freshman only take 1 or so classes during the summer. Posters on TxAgs.com are saying since he did not enroll for as a full time student his 5 year window has not begun under an NCAA Rule that seemed a legitimate interpretation. Conflicting versions of why he left. The theft of property was apparently between $500-1500.

I'm all for it if due diligence is done and he checks out, but even if we are on his radar, I don't see this happening in light of recent events. It will really touch off controversy and beg the question why him and not the other two?

It's laughable that you criticize June Jones yet defend Doherty ad nauseum. Most of JJ's recruits are in fact, high character kids. I don't have a problem with him taking a few chances if they've been vetted by the school. Everyone likes to point at Kenny Turner and Shawnbrey but we're talking less than a handful of kids. Give it a break.

interesting.
weren't there 2 other players involved in the same theft incident? if so, what was their fate?

Yes, there should be second chances, if deserved. If the kid has admitted his mistake, has made restitution or paid for his crime via jail time, and has vowed to clean up his act, then he should be looked at with a very short leash. If the kid instead, tried to skate, has not made any effort to make good the loss, or is unrepentant, no thanks.

it just happened in the spring-I don't think it has been adjudicated yet
