Top Receiver Considering SMU

I hear SMU is getting a look from -- and has offered -- wide receiver Cody Latimer (6'3, 200 lbs.) of Dayton, Ohio. Latimer is a 3-star recruit (#39 receiver in the nation, #16 player in Ohio) currently with 10 offers reported, and is a 4.4 burner for a big guy.

Latimer had 911 receiving yards in 2009 (20 yard average), 260 rushing yards (10 yard average) and a ludicrous 65 yard kickoff return average on 3 returns.

I believe Klemm (surprise, surprise) is recruiting him.

If we can sign him, Latimer and Nyle Johnson would make a frightening pair of bookend wideouts for the class of 2011.

Why is his best offer Indiana if he is a top 40 WR on rivals?

usually when you see a guy with his size/stats/speed in Big 10 country and offers primarily from MAC schools, it means "academic risk". Hope that's not the case here

Good question. There werent any articles written about him from Buckeye Grove or any of the other Big 10 sites.

He has excellent numbers in one of the combines in all of the categories including 40, shuttle and broad jump. Seems like a good looking prospect.

A lot of Big Ten and Big East schools are either full at WR or have recruited who they wanted. And Ohio has a good amount of talent in it. So this young man is kind of flying under the radar so to speak. I hope we get him.

Sounds exactly like the kind of young man that could excel in JJ's program. Hopefully Cody watches Mr. Sanders this season and sees what a four years at SMU can help you do at the next level.

I don't know whether or not it's politically correct to answer this. But it's solid (direct, not hearsay).

I have a feeling that we may have Cincinnati as the biggest competition for this kid.
