Narbonne freshman cornerback Malik Cyphers has received an official offer from Southern Methodist University, Narbonne coach Manuel Douglas said Monday.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Cyphers made an impression on a rising SMU program with his 11.0-speed in the 100 meters in middle school and his early performances against Long Beach Poly, Mira Costa and Serra this season. SMU also was the first to offer highly sought offensive lineman Dontae Levingston.

I think I can safely assume that this is the first Freshman that SMU has offered a FB scholarship to.
Does this help us get "in" on other players?

Recent NCAA legislation has made it so that any offers that go out are only verbal offers. Written offers cannot go out until Aug.1 of that prospective student-athlete's forthcoming senior year.

I think it is great we are doing this now. It helps with the individual recruits and it is also good to have some PR around our recruiting efforts.

If Adrian Klemm offered him that means he probably can play. Coach Klemm is really establishing SMU as a presence in CA.
