Comparing this year's class to previous...

Didn't take the time to look through bcs offers - which would have been interesting - but did want to see how many Top 50 in Position players we've gotten over the past years. There's obviously too much variation in star ratings to compare, but I feel like comparing either the top guys at each position/overall or comparing # of offers is a fairly reasonable way of looking at how we've done year to year.
2011: 4
2010: 3
2009: 3
2008: 1
2005: 1
2004: 1
2003: 6
2002: 1
Don't know exactly what conclusion to draw from this, other than it seems like we are finally getting in good players for multiple years in a row. Figured I'd post what i found in case someone else was bored and wanted to read.

Not just getting good players for multiple years, which is absolutely vital, but improving.
Boy, that 2003 year sure stands out, huh? Cavan had two great classes like that.

Most of these are going to be fairly subjective opinions and we will have to wait until the recruits become seniors to really measure their quality. But, last year's class was somewhat snakebitten, didn't they incur 6 knee injuries during their last year in high school?

2 great classes?
How many games did those classes win?

Talent is getting better but also the coaches are doing a better job of keeping the players they recruit in the program and contributing. I also expect to see a few JUCO players and maybe a transfer or two on the roster next year.

Yes. Two great classes in 1998 and 1999.
1) It takes both recruiting AND coaching; and
2) It takes multiple years of good recruiting; and
3) Those great recruits have to remain on campus to contribute.

It seems like Moreland is our best recruit, but who is our 2nd most valuable piece? Niemetchi? (sp)

I agree Levingston is likely our second best recruit. But I was really impressed w/ Jermaine Sams' video. He looks very fast and is explosive in open space. Just the kind of WR we need.

I like the size and the number of the big lineman. Stephon Sanders has a chance to be a super player if they can move him to linebacker. His power, quickness and speed are almost unmatched in the high schools around here or at least the ones that they played! A great class on paper but it is hard to tell until we know whether we can get them in and they adjust and stay with us! Two classes like this and we should be better able to play some heavyweights...Go Mustangs!
