There are 1700 high schools in Texas and about 3000 FBS signees each year. Even if Texas was the only state to supply all the nation's football recruiting classes, that'd still just be about half a recruit per high school per year.

Highland Park's sucess comes from good coaching with an integrated system that reaches all the way down to the pee wee level. Generaly they lack superior athletes (not to be racists but I think there are like a total of 5 black kids in the entire district). This is why they can dominate local competition but often fall short in the state tournament, where they encounter teams with top division 1 athletecism. I mean they only win the thing when they strike gold and get a numbner one draft pick on the team.

Not that I'm calling anyone racist, but the sentence should have ended after you said HP lacks superior athletes. No one would have argued that comment was at all racist. IMHO, the parenthetical was unnecessary. You stopped short of going Jimmy the Greek, but it seems to be the same train of thought. Now in the words of Forrest Gump "that's all I'm gonna say about that."

Ok, but how many at Carter or, I don't know, Pinkston went on to sign a letter of intent to play scholarship football?

Just looked it up. Answer, one each. One to North Texas and one to Colorado State.

And I like that Pony Law says what's he thinking. I may not agree, but let's at least get it out there on the table.

There will be at least one in the next class - Stogner the reciever is a state top 100 i think

The year after that there are several very large offensive lineman who are related to ex-ponies.

Don't forget about Quarterback Brady Burgin. Last Thursday's DMN listed the 2012 Area Top 50 and Burgin was one of the three quarterbacks. Schools listed were Oklahoma State, A&M, Texas Tech, Boise, Duke, and Stanford. He is 6'3"

At least two of the best players SMU has ever had came from HP. And of course more recently Matthew Stafford. But on the whole, I don't see HP as turning out a large crop of D-1A talent year after year.

Burgin is a nice qb - but he aint 6-3 - he may not even be 6-1

would be sruprised if he ends up in a big time program.

Pony Law is correct about the level of talent at HP. Being a former Scot, what HP has going for it is kids who are willing to work hard and overachieve. Another reason, the kids are usually pretty smart and can make up for lack of great talent with smarts, knowing where to be on the field at right time. HP is usually good for about three rounds into playoffs then they run into teams that are just to talented to overcome. this pretty much applies to most of the sports at HP. They will get the special season every now and then such as the Mathew Stafford led State Championship team.

True, or as I refer to them as, "Country Club" sports. Cross Country being the exception
