Why can't Turner change it then?

Who is so against us competing in athletics? If it is the board of trustees, isn't a bunch of ahtletic boosters on it? Can't they push it?
I have heard that the faculty senate is against it. If that is true, isn't Turner more powerful, especially with the backing of the board?

This is what I have to say to you faculty members that hate athletics. Wake up, accept the fact that humans like sports better than physics, biology, english, etc. 32,000 people do not come to see you give a boring lecture. People do not buy clothing that says SMU Biology or SMU Math. People do not tailgate on the Boulevard before they go to your class. We know you are jealous that sports is more entertaining and more popular than your class, so wake up and quit trying to control athletics at SMU. If SMU could recruit like their rival schools, it would help the school. A great football gameday atmosphere brings students. It gives students something to do, your lectures don't.

Dr. Turner has a UNIVERSITY to manage, not just an athletic dept or football program. As many have said, SMU is a house divided, so he has a tough job. He did good things at Ole Miss and in time, things will improve here on the Hilltop. Keep the faith.
