FoxSports Series on "Street Agents"

Postby Stallion » Sun Mar 13, 2011 4:20 pm

NCAA appears to be zeroing in on Will Lyles with investigative interviews in Texas this week. Its time to throw the trash out of college football and basketball.

Don't know if they ever can be removed, but the idea is noble, to say the least.

Part II: God Told him to Go West Young Man

Will Lyles-"street agent", recruit's best friend, live-in roommate, "mother's Boyfriend?", carpool driver- oh and independent recruiting source supplying recruiting info to Oregon. This is unctuous(one of my favorite words- fatty, oily b : smooth and greasy in texture or appearance)

LSU also paid 14 different "recruiting services" all the way from $39 for ESPN Insider to $20,000
for a National Recruiting service. This is starting to get interesting. According to LSU "just part of doing business"

Good god-I can't wait to see what the NCAA Clearinghouse has to say about this transcript- 7 different high school stops in less than 4 years:

"His father said Barnett started his freshman year at Garland High School and lived with his paternal grandmother. He then transferred during the second semester to Smith High and moved in with his father.

He played his junior season at Smith High, before moving out of his father’s house in December 2009 and transferring to Trinity High School in Euless, Texas.

In February 2010, while at Trinity High, Barnett committed to Oklahoma. Two months later, his father said, he moved back in with him and attended Smith High for the remainder of his junior year. He then moved in with his mother and transferred to L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, for his senior year and committed to Arkansas last October."

*******

"In January, Barnett’s uncle, Duke Barnett, had his nephew move in with him and enrolled him back at Garland High."

You know the "street agents" are in contact with alumnus of these schools-just waiting for the other shoe to drop-hopefully a Nike bad-ass shoe. I think Oregon has violated NCAA Bylaws by simply using Lyles for off campus recruiting visits at the recruit's school, introducing Oregon coaches to the recruit to direct the recruit to his client while having a financial relationship with the school. I think the NCAA will find he's a representative of the University. It looks like he represents a bunch of schools.

Between "street agents" and AAU coaches, slimy is not the word. Each of them have their hands out and all of them have influence over the kid and his family. When they start getting a stipend from a University that makes them an agent of athletic interests under NCAA rules, I believe. Once that happens, if they bring food to mom, the University that is paying for that guys "services" can get tagged with illegal inducements (especially if the kid ends up going there). Gary Williams at Maryland has been under fire because the Terps have had some rough years partly because he has been pretty slow to adjust to this agent/AAU environment and has been vocal about this issue. Thus, the Terps have been blackballed to some degree. He did give in to some degree to start accepting the "shoe company" angle in all of this. But that's because UnderArmor was founded by a former Terp and with ua came its marketing arm.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
