New D-Line Recruit ?

Anybody know any thing about Fred Thrweat 6-2 290# DL out of Midland Lee? Apparently looking at SMU New Mexico and others. I hope he is a possibility, we really need some big men. If we aren't careful we will end up with 5-11 180# athletes in the trenches. Quality programs are built with quality linemen on both sides of the ball. Lets go get some!

I'd read that he made a commitment last week (not sure what school), but from what I've been able to find this morning, he's still considering several schools. However, from what my sources tell me, he had a very serious interest in SMU but was denied admission.

Perfect -- it's not like we could have used a 290-pound defensive tackle or anything....

The kid is a terrific prospect. I saw him play against Westlake in the 5A Division I state championship game at Royal-Memorial Stadium. He's big and very strong. He's been courted by UT and A&M at times this fall. But I've heard he's also looking at Tech. I don't know if Leach has offered or not.

one report (unconfirmed) says he cancelled his visit to SMU and apparently cannot qualify academically.

From what I've learned, he wasn't even offered an interview by the admissions office at SMU. He's headed elsewhere.
