I gave him proof of a Texas violation and requested that they be investigated. I guess my mistake was mentioning my SMU ties because the only statement he would make was that I was foolish to think the Texas violation was at the same level as the SMU violation. I never said it was. All I pointed out was that a coach had purchased expensive cowboy boots for a recruit and thought it worthwhile looking into. Again, he said it did not warrant any investigation. Surprisingly, when Texas was investigated a few years later as more allegations arose, and subsequently put on probation, buried in the report was the admission of a coach buying cowboy boots for a recruit. The received the maximum University of Texas penalty of probation with no sanctions.
