Tall WR headed to SMU

Postby PonyPride » Thu Jun 09, 2011 9:01 pm

Seems Katy (Cinco Ranch) WR Bobby Waid is headed to SMU in the fall, where he will join high school teammate K.C. Nlemchi as a freshman with the Mustangs. At some point during his senior season, scout.com listed him at 6-4 and 170 pounds. All-district in each of his last two seasons, despite catching just 26 passes and five touchdowns over the last two seasons while playing in a run-first offense. But he does seem to have a knack for moving the ball when he gets it: he averaged 18.9 yards per catch as a junior and 21.7 yards per catch as a senior.

Wow. The ineligibles and non qualifiers keep adding up.

I won't panic...just amazed we are behind in recruiting and we cant keep kids eligible.

We're not behind in anything — it's JUNE. Nobody can sign for eight months. Based on the caliber of players this staff has brought to the Hilltop, I'm completely confident they will sign another class of talented players who can help the program. Will we get 25 All-America players? No, but I'm betting that this class will be fine, based on the staff's track record.

I assume he's a preferred walk-on. A 6-4 WR who averaged almost 22 yards per catch in a good 5A district ... as a walk-on? I'll take that any day.

Did you miss that this guy is walking on THIS fall? We obviously have some issues with non-qualifiers, ineligible players, or both. I only know of one name to this point, but I have to assume that some of the incoming recruits are having trouble...if I had to guess (and this is ONLY a guess with absolutely nothing behind it) it would be on some of the WRs recruits.

I just hope we aren't losing any WRs that are currently on the team.

Article says he "signed". Do walk ons sign anything? I do not know. I assumed he has a scholarship meaning he is most likely replacing someone who has not qualified. Hope I am wrong.

Thats why I asked if he is a walk on or not because the article said he "signed" and I do know a walk on can change his mind up until the day he reports to a university.

We gone over this before and I forget all the details but preferred walkons have to sign some kind of an agreement in order to be eligible to report and practice early and receive some limited benefits. I believe there is a limit on the number of preferred walkons you can have.
