Per Rivals, he had offers from Nebraska, Idaho State, Kansas State, and SMU out of high school, where he was rated the number 52 Cornerback prospect and 78th best player out of California. 3 star, 5.6 rating. His size is listed at 6'1 coming out of high school, running a 4.48 40. Looks solid to me. Anyone know anything about his time at Nebraska? I'm guessing he didn't see much of the field there

as per the article, he saw no time in his short stint there. I think he could be really productive for us though.

it looks like he has two years of eligibility left...would be a great addition assuming he is cleared to play in 2012-2013

FWIW......I follow the Huskers very closely and the word up there is that he may have some academic issues. Not sure how you can have academic issues at Nebraska and then transfer to SMU, but I guess we will see.

This is one way we can get better is to get quality transfers. He may not have seen the field at
Nebraska but he could possibly compete for a starting position here. I hope HuskerPony chimes in on this one.

Nebraska's Rivals reporter twitter:

Sean_Callahan: Not a huge surprise to see Lazarri Middleton transfer to SMU. He's been left of the 105 the last two years for reportedly academic issues.

interesting that he has announced his decision to transfer. he must have worked something out with SMU. probably will depend on his ability to perform in the classroom this year

Hopefully we can get him to hit the books. Can't get enough good corners.

Just heard about this. Don't know much about him other than that I recognized the name.

He was a redshirt in 2009 and didn't get on the field in 2010, but he was also obviously in a position that has been stacked with guys the past few years who are now in the nfl. Not much of a chance for a redshirt freshman to get on the field at CB in Lincoln.

Here's another article on this and his bio:

Not sure about the academic issues. One of the message boards said that got Nebraska down to 85 scholarships, but they also just gave scholarships to 4 walk-ons last week, so that either isn't correct, or they knew he was leaving.

I will see if I can find out anything else about him.

After practice today, Bo said his scholarship was not renewed this year.

No explanation. Could be any number of reasons, but that usually isn't the best sign.

Omaha radio station also reported today there was an academic issue. Still seems odd he wouldn't have his scholarship renewed if that was the only issue, but who knows.

In any case, as long as the kid can stay eligible, he got two years of coaching under Marvin Sanders and the Pelini brothers. Can't hurt to take a chance on the kid and hope he can get on the field.
