anything new to report on the recruiting trail?

It would be nice to lock down another safety, OL and RB

I think this is a quiet period so there is less active recruiting going on except for game visits and high school game evaluation

Not sure a safety is a huge priority right now as Lagasse will most likely play Free Safety & AJ Justice is a Strong Safety, although with the recent news of AJ Justice on his visit last week, who knows what the status of his commitment is. Burton seems pretty versatile and can play corner or safety.

I see the biggest needs right now are 4 more OL, a big outside WR, a cornerback and a couple more DL.

We have quite a few linebacker commits but I bet we take a couple more. Palachio is probably an olb as is Neroes. Pettaway seems versatile enough to play inside or outside. Prescott is listed as an old on rivals...but is really an inside linebacker if they choose to play him on defense. I'm hearing he is being recruited as a running back however.

How does Rivals keep P. Line at two stars considering his stats against good competition? Stallion?

no major offers....small school in non tradition rich football area....

measurables arent great....

If he wasnt Zach bro, we would be complaining about him....

There are guys in texas at the 1a level that would put up bigger numbers against michigan competition...

Don't read this wrong...I think he will play his heart out for SMU and if he is half the player of his bro, we will be glad to have him...

Speaking generally and not specifically about Line-recruiting services project players to the next level not rate high school players or give bonus points for High School All Conference recognition.

They also grade to offenses that run more traditional formations and on a BCS level. Example the profile of a Big 12 Receiver and an SMU Inside Receiver is entirely different. Both however could be Blue Chips in their respective offenses but recruiting services aren't going to rate a 5-9 reciever highly because they don't project to a BCS Receiver who generally are much bigger and stronger.

I really don't follow Michigan recruiting or Line so I know very little about level competition or his speed or athleticism. I also don't think you can make a definite conclusion about a recruit from say one bad forty time but if in fact he does run a 4.9 like reported then he will not get 3 stars and he won't get a lot of Division 1A offers either. But I concede there might be some extenuating circumstances that explain a single poor 40 like for example injury, offseason time etc. SMU might have timed him much faster for all I know.

But I do know Texas High School Football and its history is filled with record breakers like Wes Danher and Bill Jatzlu at Baylor who simply were high school studs that don't project to the next level and didn't have the speed or athleticism to get on the field at a Division 1A school.

Bottom line-the recruiting service rating systems are so screwed up now that they actually give 3 stars to kids who might be in the Bottom 1/3rd of the recruiting class. More than ever I discount Stars and focus on offers because the Coaches not recruiting services are the experts. I do realize some concession should be made for those committing before other schools fully evaluated the recruit. From an Offer perspective Line has few credible offers so I probably wouldn't give him 3 stars either until he does.

I agree with most of what you said, but it seems like Prescott would be a prime example of someone committing before other schools and also the extentuating circumstance of his brother having a lot of success with and really enjoying SMU. It seems like Prescott could be the type of player that is offerable, but not a top priority recruit, combine that with his strong commitment to SMU based on his family connections, it is very plausible that other schools have elected to not waste their time.

yeah but I'm pretty sure he went to a bunch of Midwestern camps before he committed based on stories I read
