Future QBs

At the Mustang Club meeting the other night, Coach Bennett revealed that as many as three players in this year's recruiting class might play quarterback. Hodges (Mesquite) and Gilray (Rowlett) were recruited as quarterbacks, and Coach Bennett said Harper (Atlanta) might get some time as a short-yardage option QB.

This is great news, knowing the the stable is well-stocked for future years with young arms.

On the video they showed, Hodges looked like he throws a great deep ball.

Harper is a breathtaking runner who will give opposing teams fits.

And Gilray, who some folks on this board have speculated doesn't have the necessary mobility, can move a LOT better than we were led to believe. He showed good elusiveness, and a really strong arm. All three of these guys could contribute when given a chance.

Bennett is awesome. He can really talk to a crowd and you can tell he has the tools to recruit. Next year he will bring SMU a great class and the year after that we will have a nationally respected class. Then come the championships.

It's great to hear the reports on Coach Bennett and the recruiting class. All of it sounds encouraging, and after watching Kansas State the last couple of years, it's good to know all three QBs can run. Sounds like we've got a bunch who can get out and cover some ground, if needed.

Pony Tales: You did good! Thanks for the good comments on Donnie.... now how much do I owe you?

C'mon! Y'all can take a joke, right?

What do you owe me? Since I think it might come across as unseemly to swap cash, here's what you can give us: a quarterback who's in the best shape of his life in the fall, and ready to go to war. If he comes in and takes the starting job, great. We'll all congratulate him and root for him. If he doesn't get the nod from Coach Bennett and his staff, then his performance will make the other QB's play even harder to get ready for the season. The better the QB play, the better the team will do.
I was just calling it like I saw it Wednesday night - Donnie looked good.

Go Ponies! Man I feel pumped about Coach Bennett and his staff. I tell Donnie this is the opportunity of a lifetime. He is hitting the weights, jumprope, and sprints.

Little sister just found out she has a badly damaged ACL and PCL. Reconstructive knee surgery. We are all pulling for her. Surgery in on the 22nd.

Donnie looked great in the clips Bennett showed last Wednesday evening....he obviously has as strong an arm as you so proudly told us he did.

Sorry to hear about little sister's injuries. Hope the surgery is a huge success. Let us know how it goes.

Has anyone gotten a really clear idea of what kind of offense will be run in the fall? I've read that there will be "some option" and "some spread formations" with multiple receiver sets. But if we can get a clearer breakdown of what's coming in 2002, maybe we can get a better handle on the QB race. Anyone know any more?
