Reported by Stallion on the other board:

"SMU appears to be in strong contention for one of the hottest, fastest rising prospects of the recruiting season. QB Chris Phillips from Dallas Bishop Lynch 6-4,220 4.6. 7 TDs Passing, 12 TDs rushing. Now rated a 3 star. Offers: Arkansas, Iowa St, La Tech, and SMU. La Tech leading with SMU and Arkansas also among top 3. New teams are showing interest like Ohio St, Kansas St, Wyoming."

Anyone seen him play? Know anything about him?
Thanks

He threw for 187 yards and ran for 38 and a touchdown as Bishop Lynch clobbered Seagoville last week. He's a hell of a player.

Bishop Lynch graduated a QB to UT in 2000 and it has been stated that Chris is as good if not better than his predecessor.

Having seen him play last year and every game this year, I can say that he has more mobility and runs stronger.

He has really taken control of the team and the position.

A concern would be Fumbles, against Highland Park ( Lynch's only lose so far ) he was plagued with fumbles which were needless (must tuck the ball away) HP were a hard hitting team. I know the pressure was On to make plays but discretion is the better part on valor.

Go Mustangs

I hope he's better. Nordgren hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in Austin. He's now what, fourth on their depth chart? (After Simms, Mock and Young)

Bill Foran (HP quarterback) has been offered by SMU, but doesn't appear to have us on his short list.

MIDLAND--Chris Phillips rushed for 213 yards and scored two touchdowns, including the game-winning two-yard quarterback sneak with 2:53 to go in the game, as Bishop Lynch survived to win the 38-35 back-and-forth affair against Midland Christian.Phillips was forced to beat Midland Christian with his feet because the senior quarterback was just 5-of-15 passing for 69 yards. Corey Jordan added 88 yards and two touchdowns rushing. Jordan also had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game.

There's a Corey Jordan listed on some recruiting sites who's from Garland and is considering SMU. Is that the same Corey Jordan, or is there another who attends one of the Garland high schools?

Foran at HP is interested in SMU. He has numerous offers but is only considering those first tier that allow him to play at quarterback. Since he has become one of the best in the area this season once Webb graduated,he will wait for a best fit. If SMU committed to a QB spot he would probably come.He knows a play book very much like ours in total form but then again so does tate and bartel.

SMUFinns is starting to sound like Recruiting Guru - you really know your stuff (at least when it comes to Bishop Lynch.)

hpfan, that's good news about Foran. I thought he had long since dumped SMU from his list. You really think he'd commit if he was guaranteed a shot at QB? Tell him he'll get his shot at QB. We'll negotiate with the coaches after he signs!

Thanks Fresh,

But I only know a little about Lynch Football for now after 3 years of watching.
( Observations )

I leave the rest to the real experts.

Here's what our competition is saying about Chris.

Not so fast my friend!

Most top teams have anywhere from 4-6 scholarship quarterbacks on their rosters. At the moment, we have 3: Wallis, Bartel and Hodges. There's talk that Gilray might still come back, which along with the addition of Ricky Joe Meeks would give us 5. And while Phillips is a solid quarterback, the SMU coaches think he's a good enough athlete that if he can't crack the QB rotation, he is talented enough that they can find another position for him to play, just to get him on the field. I say go get him.

After all, think of the other players on our roster who played QB in high school: SS Jamey Harper, SS Leroy Price, FS Rico Harris, WR Ashton Nixon, WR Cedric Vinson. If a player is a great athlete, bring him in!

That link that Mustang Stomping gave us lists Phillips at 6-4, 220 and says he runs a 4.6 in the 40.

It lists the schools he's considering as Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, SMU, Iowa State, Kansas State, Ohio State and Wyoming.

Seems to me, this guy might be too good of an athlete to pass up.

At 6-4, 220, 4.6, he's got to be able to play, doesn't he? If he can't play QB, couldn't you see him as a wide receiver, safety or outside linebacker?

How versatile is he? Can he play other positions? Does he play other sports for Bishop Lynch?
