Apparently Coppell QB Jordy Bernhard (5-11, 180, 4.7, 1250 SAT) still has some interest in SMU after all. He's considering Air Force, Navy, Indiana, SMU and Baylor. But if SMU is really serious about this Phillips guy at Bishop Lynch, he and Meeks might be the only QBs in the class.
Center Eddie Montoya (6-4, 300, 5.0) of Tulsa (Washington HS), Okla., has been offered by SMU, as well as by Purdue, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Tulsa. No word yet on which way he's leaning.
Carrollton (Newman Smith HS), Texas center Austin Russell (6-3, 320, 5.4, 1110 SAT) is still considering SMU, along with LSU, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Iowa.
SMU is making a hard push for Houston (Bellaire), Texas lineman Julius Orieukwu (6-6, 255, 5.0). He plays mainly defensive tackle in high school, but most of the recruiting info I've seen has him projected as an offensive lineman,
because of his big frame and long arms. He's considering SMU, Texas, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, A&M and Baylor. He has offers from SMU, K-State, Arizona and Baylor.
Two linebackers -- Aaron Shanor (6-1, 216, 4.6) of Azle, Texas and Jeremy Castillo (6-0, 200, 4.6) of Corsicana supposedly have SMU at the top of their lists, and will commit if offered. Neither has been offered yet.
Inside linebacker Ryan Henegan (6-2, 225, 4.6, 910 SAT) of Fort Worth (Nolan) has us on his list, although barely. We're near the bottom of a list that currently includes Colorado, Arizona, LSU, Notre Dame, SMU and TCU.
SMU has gotten into the running on strong safety Leonard Casmore (6-1, 210, 4.5) of Port Arthur (Austin HS). We're now on a list of heavyweights that also includes Miami, Florida, LSU, Colorado and Houston. And Austin HS is not the
same school that brought us ShanDerrick Charles and Daniel Francis (they went to Port Arthur Lincoln).
Highland Park kicker Ryan Wolcott (5-10, 180, 4.7, 1080 SAT), a.k.a. "Doak Walker's grandson" has us second on his list, behind Texas and ahead of Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Miami and Baylor.
