JUCOs

two former SMU recruits, in addition to Ricky Collins and Keivon Gamble, are having pretty good years in JUCO. Braylon Williams and Brandon Thorton are both among the leaders in Sacks, Tackles and/or Tackles for Loss. I have no idea if SMU is even recruiting them but they come from obscurity to having pretty good years. As I remember both were really young for their class and could be late developers. Williams is a Sophomore and Thornton is excelling in his first year. Scroll down to the defensive stats to check out their numbers

Damn, sounds like these kids have really developed into some great players. I've given up on Coulter and would be totally shocked if he is playing d1 ball. Didn't Collins and/or Gamble decide to go to TCU?

Any chance we get another shot at those two?

Gamble was told he did not have a scholarship anymore. Collins was said to have committed to TCU out of HS if he had an offer. Not happening for either. Shame because I feel like Collins would have been DJ 2.0

if you're basing that off the recruiting services that is not an accurate representation of what was reported. Based on those reports he wanted an offer for the 2011 season. Since he flunked out its not surprising they would expect him to graduate from JUCO. Note no one else offered for 2011 either because he played in JUCO this year. They never reported whether SMU offered for 2012.

OK, so the kid might be on the rader if he passes JUCO? You're telling me he's lighting it up and he is interested - even asked - to come here. We accept JUCO's who have qualified now, right?

we've been accepting JUCOs who slid through a crack in the bottom of the floor beems for several years. That has been proven and documented repeatedly. There is no reason he couldn't get back into SMU for 2012 if he graduates. Perhaps we were outrecruited or didn't want him.

btw it should be noted that there is a major change coming in JUCO recruiting. GPA entrance requirements for JUCOs transferring from Division 1A have been raised from 2.0 to 2.5 a VERY significant change for a lot of JUCOs.
