By my count that's 11 or 12 more players. Does anyone have a definitive answer on how many scholarships we have available to give this year?

I think we need at least 1 more linebacker, maybe 2.
And a cover corner or 2. You can never have too many guys who can cover

Safety might have overtaken offensive line as our biggest area of need.

We already have a QB, OL, DE, LB, RB and WR. I know everyone wants linemen, but I think we are done with the OL. We already had 8 underclassmen, 3 juniors and 2 seniors coming back next year. We have a lot of young DL also, 7 or 8 underclassmen by my count. The only thing we need on the line that I dont know if we have yet is a center.

We also have our QB and RB for next year, I don't think we will get another for those positions, since our existing personel there is so young. We need to spread out the QB classes especially. I also think we picked up the lone DE we will recruit for next year.

I would have picked up three linebackers, but I think that with the size of last year's LB class and the fact that we picked up 4 OL instead of three, we will only pick up two LBs this year. We have already picked up one of those.

List of remaining needs (assuming 23 total 'ships, 14 left):

- 2 fullbacks
- 2 corners
- 2 free safteys
- 1 wide reciever
- 2 strong safteys
- 1 defensive tackle
- 1 nose guard
- 1 LB
- two tight ends.

There is also a possibility that we pick up three tightends and move one of them down the line to fullback.

It surprises me that we are only (according to rivals.com) in contact for four fullbacks and four tightends. Those are needs for us. And none of them are three star. We show a long list at QB, running back, and WR, which I don't think are as pressing. And in fact, I think QB and RB are already filled. I would also like to see us land a center, but we are only in touch wtih three, so I don't think we are recruiting that position hard.

We are also recruiting heavy at end, saftey, and corner. I expected saftey and corner, but I am surprised by the amount of DE we are recruiting. I would think that true, large DT and NG are what we are deperately in need for...

Do you really think we need two fullbacks? We have Derron Brown and Earl Morris coming back, and we don't utilize a fullback that much, anyway.
Maybe one fullback in this year's class, but I'd think that would be enough.

Until we get a great QB, I would suspect that we will use a two back system.Deron is a JR next year, and Morris is a soph. I am not sure if we will get 2 this year, but I would at least expect 1 and then go get an extra tight end (three tight ends). Tight ends can be converted to fullback if necessary, or vice versa. But I think it shows our lack of depth when Ford was used as FB, and that is with us having Briggs in the mix. Brown has a history of injury problems. So I dont think that two would be that bad of an idea (redshirt one of them)...

Outside of linemen and safeties, or maybe even ahead of linemen and safeties, our #1 priority has to be speed. At all positions, we need to get faster.

The corners are pretty fast, and Harper's pretty fast at safety.

We have zero linebackers with great speed, and Don Ieremia-Stansbury is the only defensive lineman we have who's likely to chase someone down from behind.

On offense, Griffin and Vinson and Freeman are our fastest receivers, but they don't have a lot of receptions between them.

Kincade is a terrific runner, but he's not the blinding speed king of guy who can find a seam and leave a defense in his wake.

We need to recruit the fastest kids out there. At all positions.

Don't forget ShanDerrick Charles....if he can get his back problems behind him he will upgrade the speed department.

Or Barnett for that matter. I understand he can fly too.

That's true - the speed will pick up next year with the additions to the lineup of ShanD, Anthony Barnett and Comet Cunningham. And I bet this is somewhat sacreligious, but will ShanD get back on the field? Kincade is the No. 1 guy now. Barnett reportedly is shredding the starting defense in practice. We have Richuel Massey coming in, and he's supposed to be out of this world. Is there still room for ShanD?

Of course there's room. Coach Bennett has said he likes having two good running backs to rotate, and Barnett can return kicks and punts. Massey can redshirt. ShanD will be back running strong next year.

Rest assured, the coaches will find ways to get ShanD on the field. He's too talented to sit and watch.

I've only seen the Texas Tech and Rice games, and from what I've seen, I'd like to see two extremely fast outside linebackers join the mix. We could use better downfield coverage (Tech game) against RBs and TEs, and we certainly could use more pressure on the QB coming off the edge.
