What do need to fill this recruiting class?I still look at next years team and I am worried about both O and D lines. Will be starting many young players with limited playtime=experience. Now I do think they will be ready to go physically next year, but mentally they will need some time to develop. I am curious as to the thoughts of those on this board if we go after some JUCOs with the remaining scholarships left to fill one or two positions on each of the O and D lines respectively.
Your thoughts Pony nation.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?Personally, i like Howie Long's kid as a D-Lineman in our scheme if he is athletic enough, because he already has the size. Reminds me of the guy the Texans drafted in the first round out of Wisconsin this past draft. Also the two O line JUCOs we are recruiting look ready to go as well. And could really upgrade the O Line with the emergence of Laseska, Livingston, and Collins playing the interior next year. On paper the O line would look amazing.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?I think for the Rice game, JJ should put our younger guys out to get some real time experience. I mean we are bowl eligible, why not?
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?Rice is not a pushover. I don't think it's worth giving away a game.
Because we will have the 13 extra bowl practices, it will give the younger guys lots of reps in practice.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?
Yeah thats true, maybe if we can get a sizable lead like in the Tulane game, we can give them experience then. Im just worried practice isnt enough compare to real game experience.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class? You're right.
Mason has been good about getting the backups in in those situations. On offense, it has been a little different. There will definitely be a growth curve on the oline next fall.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?
Don't think we have a shot at Long's kid at all. And the other two JUCO OLs we are recruiting are both highly sought after as well. It would be a big pull to land either.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?Don't you think that recruiting if not balanced looks not for next year but at a couple of years off?
We seem to be focused on LB because our key guys are jr this season. Personally You can't have enough linemen both on D & O... Hope can sign some NT as it helps in the 3-4
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class? Those who think Rice will be a pushover had better wake up. They are much better than they seem on paper and they always seem to give us a tough game. We had better be ready or we will lose like we did at USM and tulsa.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?
Lets not blow anymore redshirts....PLEASE! ![]()
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?Rice beat us 56-27 in 2008. We barely beat them at home in 2009. And we beat them 42-31 at Rice in 2010, which was our first win at their stadium in a long time. Lets rack up three or four blow outs before we start calling Rice a pushover. Weird things can still happen when playing Rice.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?2008 was June's first game. 2009 we needed a blocked fg td return to really win the game? Or at least a Sterling Moore INT return. Last year was a battle in the first half if I remember. Rice always gives us great games.
Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?Back to topic- we need big, mean and nasty linemen on both sides of the ball. Then we will see Bus smile a whole lot.

Re: What do need to fill this recruiting class?Hire Mario Edwards as an assistant coach, and entice Mario Edwards Jr to come play for his father. Yeah I know, wishful thinking on my part.
