FYI - Commit Colin Lagasse from Lake Travis High scored 3 TDs in playoff win over Austin McCallum with runs of 21, 5 and 47 yards. He will be at Navy game with Garrett Gilbert, Lake Travis and UT transfer, this weekend. From Austin Newspaper. Go Ponies, Beat Navy.

Would be interesting if the program will attempt to pick off his brother Conner, who is committed to TCU.

Conner? Are you taking about Griffin Gilbert? I've heard he doesn't really care about going to the same school as his brother (which is why he didn't commit to UT).

My bad, Griffin.

That may be true. SMU may or may not pursue him. Worth a call, at least. I guess we'll all find out on 2/1/12.

We recruited him as a safety, but he himself has said that he prefers playing WR.

FWIW I watched Lagasse and Gilbert play against Cedar Park last wknd. Lagasse had a good game - caught a TD and had about a 80 yard TD run. Played mostly receiver and some wildcat QB. He did not enter the game on defense. I think he excels with the ball in his hand (fairly shifty), but doesn't have a great deal of speed. I could see him play some tailback/slot/wildcat at SMU in kind of a utility role.

On the other hand, Gilbert was target several times but I did not see him catch a ball. Tall kid, but doesn't get much separation or fight for the ball well. Didn't look like a 4 star player to me, and frankly, I don't know where we'd even find a role for him in our offense.

Good insight. "May be true ... may or may not pursue ... we'll find out on 2/1/12..." You think?

Somehow I doubt we go after him hard. Tight ends aren't that high on the wish list in our offense.

Just saw the highlights from the Lake Travis playoff game and Colin shredded the defense for 2 touchdowns. Not long runs but still good stuff

Kind of small for safety isn't he? Would he have the speed to make UofH 4th string?

I want this kid to be a Mustang. Watched him play in the championship game and he is good. Lives in my neighborhood so we need a good Mustang fan to balance me out.
