I read where Chris Phillips chose SMU after receiving offers from Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, Iowa State (nationally ranked all year) and Wyoming. He also supposedly was receiving interest from Kansas State and Ohio State. That is great competition, and to get this guy away from them, he must be the real deal!

WOW. 4 three star recruits, whereas we only had one all of last year. We are putting together a pretty strong recruiting class. best in the WAC so far, and the third best in Texas.

I would expect us to concentrate on DBs (corners and safteys), DTs from here on out. Offensively, we need a center and Tight ends/ fullbacks.

Ford Stadium will host form 7th grades through Varsity game starting at 10:00am 11/9/2002, with the highlight being Bishop Lynch v's Trinity Christian Academy ( TAPPS 1-5A ) District Championship / Title game. Both are 3-0 in district. It will be a great day for ALL involved and a great chance for y'all to see Chris Phillips in action. I'm sure that the coaches will be viewing the game.

Call it the best in 15 years. The incoming freshman class in 1983 had 4 high school All-Americans (Jeff Atkins, Albert Reese, Terrance Mann, and David Stanley) as did the class of 84 (David Richards, Reggie Ballard, Sean Stopperich, and Ben Hummel). This would be our best class since 86, just with the kids who have committed so far, but only Massey is close to the best recruits of the previous years.

Didn't someone write that they read Massey had been rated by someone as the No. 1 running back in all of Texas? Does that mean he'll be too talented to redshirt? Might get crowded in the SMU backfield with all those talented runners - what a great problem for the coaches to have.

Massey is listed as the #8 Running Back in TX and #41 in the US. About the same rank as Barnett, as I recall. However at 5'11", 220lbs. and 4.4 in the 40, this guy looks like a load. I'll send a photo of Massey to the Webmaster and see if he'll post it. He looks like a monster.

However, according to Rivals100, QB Ricky Joe Meeks remains our top recruit as the #67 athlete in TX. Massey is close behind at #81.

You have to be careful with those recruiting rankings as they are all over the map. Last year Karrington was called by some as the best in texas at DE,but that was just an opinion based on a series of games. On other lists he was as low as 24th best in the country to as high as 66th best. Talk about all over the map.He also had 3 to 5 star ratings during the year but was hardly mentioned in Dave Cambell at the start of the season. Moral,,how do they do about their sophomore year forward..

School: Irving High, Irving, TX.
Position: Middle linebacker
Size and speed: He is 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. Zach runs a 4.7 hand held timed 40 yard dash.
Statistics: Last season Zach Hall had approximately 130 tackles, and four sacks.
Honors: He made defensive MVP for his team. He was first team All-City and honorable mention All-District.
Strong Points: His strong points are his mental toughness and his ability to hit. He described himself as "a big team player", comparing his style of play to Zac Thomas of the Miami Dolphins.
Favorite Schools: He has no offers as of yet, although he is hearing from Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Texas and others.
At this time Texas A&M is recruiting the hardest and would also have to be considered the top favorite, though Alabama and Notre Dame are running close seconds.
If he could choose his visits today, he would go to:
Texas A&M: "Because it's in Texas, the atmosphere is great, the twelvth man and I really liked position coast Weddel."
Alabama: "Their tradition of great football and the head coach."
Notre Dame: "They have a tradition for big time football."
Texas: "A dream school for me. I've been along time fan."
Georgia Tech: "I met Chan Galey and some other coaches when they came to our high school, and they were real good guys. I also have family in the Atlanta area."
Quotes and Comments: "I would really like to stay in Texas, but where I feel the most at home is where I'll go."
"My family would like me to stay close, so that they can attend the games," Hall said. "I want to go where football is the number one sport and backed by most of the state."
"I attended camp at Texas last year and will probably make A&M and Alabama this summer."
The family are big Texas Longhorn fans, though they attended a junior orientation at Texas A&M and liked it a lot.
He wants to be a football coach, so he's probably going to major in sports management.
His goals for next year are to win the state championship and make first team All-State.
When asked about his toughest opposing player, he named Euless Trinity High's offensive lineman Ofa Mohetau.
He benches 280 pounds, squats 475 pounds, has a vertical leap of 30 inches, a school grade point average of 3.4 cumulative, and will possibly take the ACT in March.
