One thing is becoming very clear

Bennett is a hell of a recruiter. He has a honest passion for SMU and SMU football. That is something these recruits can sense. I never got that from Cavan. We have some serious D1 athletes committing and giving us a look right now. I know for a fact that Chris Phillips is a player and was getting the attention of some big-time programs. I can only imagine what Bennett could do if we start winning.

I was at the "Breakfast with Coach Bennett" function yesterday morning (coffee and donuts)and Bennett attributed a lot of their success so far in recruiting to the camps they had this summer and the relationships they have developed with a lot of the high school coaches in the area. Our coaches have brought a lot of these high school coaches in to participate in the camps and they have in turn taken on an ownership sort of position with the SMU program and are steering some of their better players our direction. Bennett is going to bring this program back to where it should be...just give him a little time.

To pick up on the theme of PK's post...

One thing I find very interesting, is that of all the recruits who are interested in us, we seem to be nailing down commitments from the highest rated ones.

Off all the QBs who have taken a look at us, we've closed 2 of the top 3. We picked up the #1 running back, and 2 of the top 3 or 4 linemen already.

Using logic, this seems to indicate that of the people who are exposed to our program, the recruiting team is doing a phenominal job of convincing kids that the Hilltop is the place to be.

I like that pattern. Hopefully we can get some top safeties and defensive linemen on campus and let the coaches work their magic there, too.
