Mustangs nab talented RB

A big piece of the SMU Mustangs return to glory might have just fallen into place with one of its biggest commitments in recent history.
Hillsboro, Texas, running back Richuel Massey called the SMU coaches earlier this morning and let them know that he was officially a Mustang.
"He felt happy with the coaching staff at SMU," Bryan Erwin, Massey's coach, said. "He went up there for a visit and got to look around the games and just liked everything about it.
"They run the same offense we do, and he really liked the small campus atmosphere in a big city setting."
Another thing that sold Massy, according to his coach, is that SMU made the 5-foot-11, 220-pound three-star running back a big priority. While other schools, including Texas A&M, didn’t make him No. 1 on their list.
“He was a big priority on their list,” Erwin said. “They were open and honest with him from the start. I’ve known coach Bennett all the way back to his days at A&M, and I know that he’s going to be in good hands up there.”
Massey had recently mentioned that he was holding out hope that an offer from A&M would be coming, but that offer never came and he ended up being solid on the Mustangs and their future.
“He liked A&M but was a little perturbed with their situation,” Erwin said. “He went over there to talk to coach Slocum and when he got there, coach wasn’t there. But he was SMU’s top back from day one and now he’s made a decision he’s very happy with.”
Massey has racked up around 300 yards in two games already this season. He also had offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Baylor and is ranked as the nation’s No. 42 running back.

So between that list and your post of an interview done with him last year, he's added 20 pounds of muscle? Very impressive - 20 pounds in a year is a hell of a lot, even for a teenage guy who eats everything in sight. Anyone know how big his family is? Will he keep growing?

Very good point. I hadn't noticed that.

Notice that he's a state record holding powerlifter. So 20 lbs. in a year is probably an extreme example of what an individual can accomplish in a year.

This guys should be REALLY fun to watch.

If Massey redshirts next year, as most coaches like to do with their freshmen, how big will he be when he actually sets foot on the field?
