Top 10: Recruiting

From the home office, high on the Hilltop, the top 10 reasons SMU is off to such a fast start in recruiting:

10. Chris Phillips, who plays quarterback for the FRIARS of Bishop Lynch, committed to SMU when he realized the Mustangs were originally were known as the PARSONS. No word on whether he plans to major in theology
9. Ricky Joe Meeks committed when he learned of the legend of Dandy Don Meredith - realizing that all quarterbacks with two first names become stars at SMU
8. Head coach Phil Bennett announces he wants "burly" offensive linemen, earns prompt commitment from Kennard Burley
7. On visits to SMU, recruits are told there's a chance the George Dubbya Bush presidential library might end up at SMU. Recruits draw obvious conclusions that either there will be no books at all, or that all books in the library will need to be colored instead of read
6. Richuel Massey of HILLSBORO and Caleb Peveto of FLOWER MOUND Marcus conclude the HILLtop is the obvious place to play in college
5. Colleyville Heritage offensive lineman says he was "Boren" to be a Mustang
4. Coaching staff convinces Irving linebacker that SMU campus construction will result in the school's newest building: Zach Hall
3. Now that the Republicans took over all forms of the government in recent elections, what better place to get into a cozy tax bracket than at SMU?
2. Recruits like the fact that unlike Baylor and Texas A&M, SMU is recruiting with coaches who will be employed at the school next year

And the #1 reason SMU is off to such a great start in recruiting:

1. DE Desmond Jones decides he wants to major in history, with an emphasis on American presidents; concludes only natural choice is to go from CARTER High to FORD Stadium

Great list, Letterman!
Gotta like the SMU history lesson (#10), and the plays on words.
Bush Library comment is priceless.
Sorry, but #5 is cheesy. But you came back strong on #4.
And we always appreciated a good back-handed slap at A&M and Baylor High.

#3 doesn't relate to football at all, and #7 is offensive.
The rest are funny, though.

Never mind GM's comments - keep it up with the top 10 lists. They're funny, and they're not saying anything that hasn't been said before, or that won't be said again.
Good list. Keep 'em coming.
