While there rarely is a reason to look at the other site anymore, I found this. Since it is not posted here, I thought I would do the honors. Below are some posts from Stallion:

I was listening to the Trinity/Lamar game on my home on the Ticket and the announcers kept referring to the RB from Lamar (Turner was his name I believe) as being orally committed to SMU. I for one have never heard of him or SMU's interest in him. Can maybe Stallion or someone else verify this or where these two jakelegs being stupid misinformed high school homers.

This message is from Stallion(although it says Rebecca because I forgot my password at home and she checked the board on my computer). I confirmed in an article posted on the Arlington Lamar website from one of the local papers that TB Fred Turner has been OFFERED by SMU but not that he has committed to SMU. He flies under the scope of the recruiting services because he and Lamar had an average year last year-he had about 375 yards rushing last year on 77 carries. However, Turner appears to be a HUGE sleeper that is a great prospect with skills deserving at least a 3 star rating. Apparently, he ran a 4.29 at a Lousiana Tech camp last summer-that is smoking ala Kevin Garrett-probably one of the top 5 times in the state if true. Article also says he has 37 inch vertical jump and can do a 360 dunk of a BB which is incredible for a guy his size. He has over 1300 yards in the regular season plus another big game last nite -what was it 150 yards rushing and Lamar is probably the most improved team in the state at 10-1. He's a small guy 5-9 to 5-10 and apparently about 175. I GUARANTEE YOU that if he is really that fast, that athletic and with that production he is a TOP BIG TIME recruit possibly at CB where Bennett wants as much speed as possible. Maybe also at WR. Good catch on that recruiting info and I hope we really do get him. I'll try to leave a message on the recruiting service boards to see if they will check on the guy and rate him. Also I question their ratings of the Dallas Cater kids. Carter led by SMU commit Desmond Jones is undefeated and has only allowed LESS than 6 points a game with 4-5 shutouts. I've never seen Jones play but somebody is DOMINATING the line of scrimmage for Carter and its probably Jones. These are the types of players that SMU can really use to improve the talent level of the team regardless of what the recruiting services say. BTW I checked on the Rivals network and there is only one recruit in the nation with an official 40 time better than Turner and that guy has a 4.28 a one hundreth of a second faster

The article I read was about 10 days old and mentioned only SMU. There is no such thing as an official commitment. He may well have committed but the recruiting services and the papers haven't picked up on it. Also, sometimes a player makes a "soft commitment" to a school but doesn't rule out other visits. Happens all the time especially with schools like SMU, Rice etc and players not in the recruiting services Database which Turner is not. Prior to the game the announcers generally have meeting with the coaches and top players so that info maybe accurate just not widely reported yet. TRUST ME if his athletic skills are as reported he is an incredible prospect and as top recruit as SMU has yet gotten a commitment from. His athletic skills alone would even be on a par with Top NFL prospects-they are that outstanding. Let's cross our fingers. To read more on him go to the Arlington Lamar High School site where there are numerous articles from the DMN and FWST about Lamar and Turner.

at my urging the editor of Heartland Recruiting checked on the reported commitment of Fred Turner. It is now listed on the board as a solid commitment to SMU. He reports that Turner ran for over 1500 yards so far this year for Arlington Lamar but that because of his size he will likely be moved to DB. Heartland gave him only 2 stars and reported a 4.5 40 time. As I reported the other day he is supposed to have a 4.29 time at a Louisiana Tech combine which if true would be one of the fastest times in the nation. Also there are reports of a 37 inch vertical leap(incredible) and that he can do a 360 degree dunk of a BB. There are numerous other confirmations of Turners unusual speed so I think that the Rivals report is probably WRONG although I told him of the reported 4.29 time. Also, Turner is a member of the STATE CHAMPION 4 x 100 sprint relay team in 5A last year. BTW Turner's performance this year although outstanding has actually been hampered by a leg injury which has reportedly slowed him during at least parts of 4 games. During the period of he was completely healthy he had a series of games with between 200-250 yards per game. For example against Temple he had 234 yards rushing 308 yards total and 5 TDs. But the next week he had 227 by halftime against a 5A playoff team, Arlington Sam Houston, and finished with 254. Lamar is still alive and will play Coppell this week. Hopefully some report on Turner. I'm excited about the potential of this speedster despite only the 2 star given by Heartland. Hell until I mentioned Turner they didn't even know who he was so take their rating with a grain of salt. BTW you can read about every game Turner played this year by going to the Arlington Lamar website.
