Baytown Lee WR commits to SMU

Baytown Lee wide receiver Jaymond Cleveland (5-11, 170) has orally committed to SMU, bringing the Mustangs' total to 12. Oral commitments are non-binding, and the first day a football recruit can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 5.

Anyone with access to Rivals have a profile of the new WR?

Not much else from the non-Premium Rivals side. Cleveland is rated 2-stars for what it's worth.

I saw someone had him as a 3-star prospect, but I can't remember who.

5atexasfootball.com does. He had 85 receptions this year for 730 yards and 8 TDs.

From the premium Rivals side: for what it's worth, he was also offered by Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette Either he has been overlooked and could be a sleeper, or he's just not that good. I don't see Bennett filling up the class with mediocre players though. Glad to see we are recruiting WR's at least.

Also, 5atexasfootball.com has Baytown Lee recievers ranked #5 in the state. Interesting, but Cleveland is the only WR prospect on Rivals.

This is as excited as I've been in a while — this guy is a real good receiver. He's not going to run a 4.0 in the 40, but he can cover a lot of ground. I'd call him fast, if not a pure sprinter. He does have real good jumping ability and very soft hands, so if you get the ball near him, he'll almost always come down with it. I've seen Cleveland play a few times, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why more people haven't offered him a scholarship. He's a player.
