Can I talk about this?

Looking at the new list of recruits it does my heart good to see 5 good sized o-linemen on board.

I'm a little concerned or just I am not educated on how recruiting works. Do D-Line prospects commit later that O-Line prospects?

Do we have a couple ( 3 or 4 to actually get 2 ) D-Line ( Tackles ) that we are close to closing?

I LOVE what the coaches are doing and I just may not understand how the recruiting game is played.

Help - please explain.

BUS, you are right on, as usual. The DT position needs help. More than that, I'd like to see a run down on ALL the defensive players who are considering SMU, and who has been offered.

I'd also like to see comment on which of the players who were redshirted this year might contribute on the defensive line next year.

And are there any transfers who might help?

First of all D-line is the hardest position to fill. They must be big or can get big, fast, quick, strong and mean. This year is a down year for quality D-linemen as well. Last year by contrast was a very deep year for talent, especially in Texas. Converting linebackers is at best a 25% chance of success. The D-line is the area on our team that is probably the thinest as well. I think it was a miracle that the interior lasted as long as it did with Allan and Lute. I think it will always be difficult to find good players at that position..

another thing to consider is whether the coaching staff will move some of the current OL guys to the DL. We should get a feel for their thinking in spring ball. Who ever thought Ieremia-Stansbury would end up at DE? He was talking before the Tulsa game about putting on 20 lbs before next year! I think the NG position will be the toughest to fill with Croy leaving. Not enough 300 pounders with quickness out there.

speaking of the nose guard position, Cedric Cofer is a local guy that some recruiting sites have rated extremely high. I hear he was injured and might not have played this year? One site has him at 6-4, 295 and running a 5.2 Sounds like a guy we should be going after hard. Anyone seen him play?

SMUStudent06, if you can post other players who have been offered by SMU at other positions, that would be much appreciated. Post the whole list!
Thanks

According to Rivals, our 2003 class is currently ranked 37th with 5 3-star commits, and 435 points. However, based on our star average, which is 2.42, we have the 62nd ranked class.

SO what you are saying is that this is one of the hardest positions to recruit and the young men can wait and see the choices of schools that offer. They don't take the first offer.
Thanks for the help folks.

What happened to the two centers who were being pursued by SMU: Austin Russell and Eddie Montoya? Are they off the radar screen, or have they not been offered? They're both over 300 and both are reportedly good players. Any update on them?

Montoya has been offered by Alabama, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Purdue, and Tennessee. Nuff said. Russell has yet to recieve an offer from anyone, but is apparently interested in OK State and Nebraska. He's also a litle slow, running a 5.5 40 time and is only 6'3" 320lbs.
